    Hello mates.

I have a problem with my powermac.
I turned on today in macos mode to see the noise level.
Then I turned it off to start with mos and suddenly it doesnt work.
I have two HDs. One with macos and the other with mos..
Now, when I turn it on nothing happends.

I can heard the mac sounds but nothing start.
Once I have seen a gray screen.
And It doesnt work the usb keyboard and mouse.
I have tried turning on without keyboard and mouse
and Mos started but the fans go mad with high temp..
I turned it off again and couldnt start mos again.

I have removed the battery cos it doesnt work but I have not touched anything.
    All this has happened suddenly...

Excuse my typing errors. Im writing with a bad smarthphone.
    Need some help friends.

Yes, It is closed. This morning I have switched on It and mos started but with more
than 100 c and fast fans. After switched off I cant make work again.

I cant see anything cause It doesnt works keyboard and mouse. When I go home lets try to do a cold startup and run mos to see how many cpus are working.
Its strange cause all problems become suddenly.
    Until now It worked great.
I have opened the tower and dont see leakage signs but i have no idea.

I have been all day away but when I come back to home I turned on the powermac, press the alt key and I have can select an operating system.
I have selected macos and all worked well!!!!
I see in the diagnostic from macos that a dimm bank was wrong.
Turned off the computer, tried again and nothing occours. My computer cant start...
    Must I wait to what???
    It´s all so strange...

If it really showed 100°C at some point it's quite clear that cooling has failed one way or another and the CPU and/or mobo a fried.

    If it still runs ....

STOP TRYING TO FRY IT FOR GOOD !!!!

    ;)

Something is of in the cooling, either a dead fan, cooler falling of CPU, dead pump, low liquid, hose/cooler blocked by dried up coolant etc etc.

Take it apart, find the culprit and if it is liquid cooled do a complete overhaul.

Kronos' advice is spot on, but don't despair if you've fried a CPU, they can be replaced and its likely your motherboard is fine as long as there has been no coolant leak.

Anyone else see why I went for a 2.3 GHz machine?

Can the 2.5 and 2.7 GHz systems be modified for air cooling?

Thanks Jim for the help. There is a topic about usins air cooling in these machines.
Ill look for prices of cpu and lcs...

I never understood Apple and the decision they made with this.
The G5 @ 2.5 or 2.7 is no hotter than many AMD processors, actually quite a bit cooler than the latest 8 core monsters.
Water cooling was not necessary, its a gimmick best suited to overclockers.

As I've aready bored everyone to death about this already I've got a 2.7GHz version that someones put an air cooled dual 2.0MHz CPU board into. Works fine, at 2.0MHz, so a bit slower than 2.7 but 8GB of Ram, and no liquid cooling nightmairs.

Don't get me wrong, I am considering a liquid cooling system for use in my Sun Ultra 20 case (almost a perfect case for this) with an 8 core AMD processor running at 5 GHz.

I just think Apple's decision was pure marketing hype, and possibly a way to embarrass IBM.

And this kind of complication is out of place in a consumer product.

The great problem of the cooling system inside G5s was that Delphi put a corrosive liquid inside their cooling unit without mention the sediments this liquid created inside pipes. The o-rings used are not that good and I've read someone found screws not properly tighten too. Put a not conductive cooling liquid inside this units could have saved a lot of G5 lifes just in case of leaking with no sediments anywhere and no cpus damages.
If it is possible (and read again what Stephen_Robinson wrote) to put an air cooled system in a G5 without problem, why not?

Cooking oil would have worked (or mineral oil).
And as far as I know they are not conductive or corrosive.

Might destroy the wrong type of o-ring though.
Then again, o-rings shouldn't have been used either.

    Here again!
I have started with MacOS and used a program to see the cpu temp.

CPU A reach 80C from time to time but CPU B dont pass from 60 C. Perhaps I have bad sensors but what is the normal temperature?
Why in morphos 3.4 temp grow to more than 100 with full fan velocity? One of friend of mine can't test MOS cos his G5 is at full fan speed all time but with MacOS is warm.
His mac shows 50 C in macos but 80 in MOS. What is happening?

    Can I disable CPU A?
Can I buy to CPU 2.0 GHz and replace my current 2.5 ones simply changing them?

I don't know the answer to the other questions, but CPU A is probably the hotter of the two because its being used.
