Hi Benlaug,
I'm surprised that you have noticable slowdown with this setup - Radeon 7500 should have
64MB vram at least, which should be plenty for normal usage. A 400MHz G4 is still a mighty processor.
How much memory (RAM) is installed?
In terms of 'turning off the eye candy':
Go to the the system preferences panel (Right click on the desktop, select 'settings>system'.)
enter the 'screens' settings.
select 'Ambient' and hit the 'edit' button.
uncheck 'enhanced display' and hit 'OK' then 'Save'
enter the 'Display Engine' settings.
uncheck 'allow double buffered screens' and 'allow triple buffered screens'
hit 'Save'
See if this speeds up your experience. If so, play around with these until you find the best combination of speed/performance for your system.
NB - you are aware that Ambient slows down after around 30 minutes if it is unregistered? (How could anyone ignore that annoying popup reminder?!)
