Hi all. I've been successfully tinkering with USB memory sticks and a memory card reader (volume only mounts if it's formatted with MorphOS' FAT). But I have two problems: First, MorphOS delays its startup almost a full minute when I have a little USB hub plugged in the back connector. The symptom is that the MorphOS logo stays on screen, with no disk activity at all. Then, if I unplug the hub, it proceeds as normal.
Then, another problem: I have strangely slow transfers, something like 30 KB/s, with constant stalls of half a second. I've read briefly Poseidon's brilliant documentation, but missed information about tweaking devices for better performance. Anyone out there wants to share knowledge about this?

You could see the log in Poseidon Trident window (use separate Trident if you upgraded Poseidon), if there are errors of some kind.

AFAIK there is a problem with the old Poseidon inside the 1.4.5 boot-image if it finds a masstorage before it gets kickd-out by Poseidon-update.

So make sure you got the latest Poseidon installed, and make sure no "drives" are connected on boot-up.

Thanks for the information. I would update to Poseidon 3, but it's known that it will stop working somehow if I'm not registered. Well, I already sent Chris a donation, so I will update anyway soon (i hope).
So, are there any configuration tips I should learn? Or do I have to watch Trident's log first, and tell you guys about it?
    Thanks for the help.

I've most of the time 3 USB-connections. Also with start up. No problem or slowing down.
Do you have this command in the start-up sequence?

    Execute MOSSYS:S/PoseidonROMUpdate

I forgot once and had the same problem.....

    regards Tom

So, you are saying that I can freely update to version 3 of Poseidon, and not suffer any limitation? I had a wrong assumption then. What about all those problems that people commented here a while ago? The explanation was that Poseidon 3 required registration to work completely.

Will check at home. My MorphOS setup is almost stock, only a few utilities added. This "PoseidonROMUpdate" is a script, right? What does it do?

You misunderstood, registration is only required if you intend to use unlicensed usb controllers (like usb 2.0 pci cards).

PoseidonROMUpdate is part of the Poseidon updates, it updates Poseidon components that are found in boot.img.

On the stock 1.4.5 disk image I had the problem where I
could not boot with a USB stick disk attached.

After tinkering, upgrading Ambient to newer nightly build
etc I didn't have thr problem.

Recently I upgraded Poseidon to the 3.3 release and have
had no problems with it. The update was very easy.

To koan and Golem: Thankyou very much for this information!
Indeed, I'm going to update to Poseidon 3 as soon as possible.
