Peg2 : Firmware glitch

    Hi all,

I recently updated my PegII-G3-600 firmware with the latest from blpan (to try to fix a slow hard drive spin-up forcing me to reset at cold boot).
The flashing seemed to worked fine, and the PegII still boots afterwards (hard drive spin-up unfortunately still not fixed)...
But... the screen is totally black apart from the little blue b logo, and the line at the very top that says Radeon64, CD, DDR etc... No more text prompts explaining it's booting and so on. Just a flashing cursor right next to the little b logo.
I thought it was because I also installed a USB keyboard rather than my old Ps2 one... But now I'm not so sure, as I tried to plug back my old keyboard, and it still does it.
Also, it's now unclear if I can press ESC and interrupt the autoboot to type stuff manually. (I'd like to give a go at PegXmac for example).

Any idea what's happening? Nyone with the same issue?
Do I need to reflash the bios with the serial cable thingy?

    Help!
    JBB

When I should guess my tip would be to
remove one of your memory sticks ...
a little more info would be welcome :-)

    Hi JBB,

I have nearly the same problem...
I think it is because of the harddisk which is not enough faster for the Peg II (no problem on peg I with the same drive...).
After the first boot, reset with the 3 buttons (control+windows+windows) and you should be able again to stop with esc...
Do not make it with the reset button...!
For me it works like this, hope it will be remove in next firmware upgrade...
Or perhaps it could be possible to add an ide reset during the boot ??

Alsa try bootcreator to easily lunch linux pegxmac ect...

    Hope it could help !

    Hello !

If you have the Graphic card display + the bPlan logo, but no prompt, it certainly means that your keyboard is not detected or failed to be init.

The OpenFirmware only handles PS2 one. Please check that yours is
plugged well. If you still have problem, you can try to plug another
box on the serial port (115200 bauds) to see what happen.

    Bye

I got the exact same issue tonight. I simply
double-checked the PS/2 connectors and it
    booted up just fine.

    You were right guys.

My problem was coming from the fact that my old PS2 keyboard was actually dead! (adding to the confusion, swapping USB for PS2 made things worse as nothing was booting anymore)

Put another PS2 keyboard in it, and my text is back, along with ESC control... Yepee.

Thank you all for your help.

Slight shame not to be able to control the firmware if you have a fancy USB hub keyboard.
Does BootCreator work with USB keyboard?

    Cheerio,
    JBB
