    I was checking in to see if anyone had tried any of the newer PCIe Radeons with MorphOS?

    Is anyone using 4k resolutions in MorphOS? If so what card and what connection?

    I'm using a X1900 PPC Mac Edition. It works fine overall and great with 2 monitors. It has 2 DVI adapters - Running it in HD resolution. It will not work with a 4k monitor when you use a HDMI to DVI to convert it (due to limitation with DVI to HDMI conversion).

    Currently there are no cards supported with native 4K-Output on Morphos. On Radeon cards 4K output starts with GFX6, but max. supported on MorphOS are GFX5 cards (with 2D graphics acceleration, no overlay).

    Some of the data may translate to value somewhere for MorphOS, so here you go:

    If it's any comfort, using a 4k resolution on a system that doesn't support GUI scaling is not fun.

    PPC BE Linux has limitation to use Radeon cards only upto Northern Island family ( ~ HD6xxx ). Southern Islands ( ~ HD 7xxx ) and newer has no hw accel support, works only framebuffer, so they are unusable.
    It is no surprise that RX 560 + GTX 950 not works, only the HD6870.

    Cards not supported by Powermac OF boots "blindly" to linux. Most powerfull for linux is probably Radeon HD 6970 with Cayman chipset.

    So, if you want to use linux+MorphOS, the best choice is Radeon HD 6870 with Barts chipset.
    And if you need see OpenFirmware screen, you have to add some Powermac compatilble non-radeon card - like 1-slot Nvidia GeForce 6600.

    Just to mention it for completeness sake, support or non-support doesn't correspond to the "Islands" family names (which up to RV9xx correspond to the R(V)Xxx GPU names) or HDXxxx series names, but to the actual GPU architecture. PPC BE Linux supports up to TeraScale 3 (called GFX5 by the X.Org project, see comments #2/#3). This includes Radeon cards up to HD 7670, HD 8350 to HD 8490 and R5 210 to R5 310.

    It is indeed, unless Linux can use both GPUs of the Antilles (= dual-Cayman) chipset of the HD 6990, which I don't know.

    There was problem with Mesa big endian powerpc 3D drivers.
    Working was only radeon (=r100) upto r600 (i.e. Northern Islands). Next gfx generations needs radeonsi 3D driver, which not worked on Big endian.

    Does it mean, that radeonsi now works with Big endian? Or are there some special BE driver?
    Pls, do you have link for some info?

    P.S: I am still thinking in this scheme.

    Yes, this hasn't changed. I think I may have been somewhat unclear. I'll try again:
    Your statement that PPC BE Linux supports up to Northern Islands (= RV9xx) is correct. This is because it supports up to TeraScale 3 GPU architecture. What's a bit misleading though is to correspond this with the HD6xxx cards when ⅓ of HD7xxx cards are also supported, and even some of HD8xxx and R5 cards, because they use TeraScale GPUs.
    The first sentence in my previous comment was more of a general statement that there is no general correspondence between card family (HDXxxx, Rx etc.), GPU family ("... Islands", R(V)Xxx) and GPU architecture (TeraScale 1-3, GCN1-5 etc.), of which only the last really determines (non-)support. This is illustrated by the fact that MorphOS supports not all of Northern Islands GPUs (namely only those of TeraScale 2 architecture, but not those of TeraScale 3).

    Yes, this is because those GPU families starting with Southern Islands (= "R1000" internal name) use GCN architecture.

    So if I summarize it ( with help of www.techpowerup.com ), the fastest powerpc big-endian linux 3D capable cards should be TeraScale 3 with Cayman chip:

    dual-slot: HD 6970 - 250W
    single-slot: AMD FirePro V7900 with external power connector 150W or
    AMD FirePro V5900 without external power 75 W.

    Maybe also with Antilles chip HD 6990, but it has two graphics chips on one card and 375 W, a little bit overkilll.

    Yes, performance ranking of cards with RV970 "Cayman" GPU would be:

    1. Radeon HD 6990 (375 W, dual-RV970)
    2. Radeon HD 6970 (250 W)
    3. Radeon HD 6950 (200 W)
    4. Radeon HD 6930 (186 W)
    5. FirePro V7900 (150 W)
    6. FirePro V5900 (75 W)
