Which SSD device will work in a PowerMac G5?
Any suggestions?

I was looking for a OWC-Mercury-Electra-240GB-Serial. It's a SATA II device.
But I have no clue whether it will work in a G5?

The G5 has SATA1, so all SATA1 SSDs, virtually all SATA2 SSDs and only some SATA3 SSDs should work.

Yes, what Andreas stated is for the most part correct. All standard SATA interface drives will work, many SATA2 drives will work, SATA3 drives won't work at all.
And I was quite satisfied with my OWC SATA2 drive...until it abruptly stopped functioning.

At this time, I have several 2.5" conventional hard drives, most of which work under MorphOS. And since our storage needs are modest, these 250-320 GB drives are humming away in my computers for now.

Since OWC drives are warranted for three years, they'll exchange mine.
So I'll have at least one SSD. I might just put it in my X64 laptop though.

MorphOS only benefits just so much from these devices.
I know some of you will object to that statement, but I don't see the point in spending too much to expand dated hardware.

Hmm, OK.
Unfortunately this OWC drive is quite expensive.
Cost more than double as current SATA III devices.

In my G5 Quad works a Samsung Evo 850. Works like a charm. The Evo 850 is pretty fast and Leopard is very stable.

I have a Intel SATA2 SSD in my G5 - Works great !

SATA3 will work just not as full speed. I am using a Samsung 512GB SSD in mine with no problems at all.

I had tried an "Intenso 256GB SSD SATAIII" but it didn't work although it has SATA 1.5GB compatibility.

I guess there is almost no better place than this thread to inform about the exact product name and/or part number :-)

I have a SanDisk SDSSDA24 with 240GB, works nicely in my G5 PowerMac 7,3!

Cool, if a second user could verify that, I'd be thrilled, because SATA2 drives just aren't coming down into the range SATA3 drives sell for (and that OWC failure kind of bugs me - warranty or no).

I can confirm that a Samsung Evo 850 works.

My first SSD on a G5, an OWC, worked but failed prematurely.

And with this...I have a candidate for my third SSD.

I can save the cheap SATAIII drives for my X64 laptop.
