Is that using a PATA>SATA converter in place of the optical drive (ie using macio.device rather than ide.device)?
If so that is interesting, I may look at upgrading my Powerbook (which has a broken ram slot anyway).

Is it possible to put a standard SATA optical in the powerbook?
    Blueray?

I haven't seen any PATA>SATA optical converters (but haven't looked tbh). You'd still be limited by the bus speed anyway, and there's no support for the bluray file system either.

You'd be better off with an external drive via USB.
I tested the same drive on USB (SATA>USB adapter) and optical bay (SATA>PATA adapter): ~15MB/s via USB with v little cpu load compared to about ~3MB/s via the optical bay ATA connector with ~100% cpu load.

I have 5.6 board, and this combination works quite well (not very nice, but works).

I tried with this adapter, but it is NOT fit in 15" Powerbook. As i see on the klinked video it is fit on a 17" PB.

I tried two 2,5" SSD without the case, but still no room for the adapter.

I'm happy to hear that your combo works, but it seems the SSD you bought is very expensive. The advantage to use a SATA SSD should be to pay less, if I have to pay so much I would prefer to buy one of these that is way much better:

    Understandable.
I'm still trying to figure out how to put them back in (the main reason I am not using the Powerbook that I assembled from three donor machines).

    Not too hard.
    4 on each side.
    13 on the bottom.
several hex screws for the hard drive and the mainboard.
    Something like that.

I-fixit.com (or something like that) has great guides with pictures of step-by-step directions on how to disassemble and reassemble most Mac models.

The Powerbook is not a difficult model to take apart and put back together.

@Miky060: it about an year old link, and it's not sold anymore, at that time this was the only (risky) solution for me to try, and luckyli it works. And with the interface it's still only 136 usd for 64 gigs, while the link You mentioned offers 60 gigs for 140 usd (not talking about DX free shipping) :)

@Derringer: well it works, but you need something smaller, than a regular 2.5" ssd drive

Anyone who knows if OSX and LinuxPPC has any problems to find this SATA-adapter some how?
I used the same small one in my Dreambox and that didn't work since it couldn't use it properly.

Yeah, but there is totally not comparison between the 2 solutions: the OWC Legacy Pro is the absolute best SSD you can give to your Powerbook and if I choose something different it should be only because it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. The 6 gigs you miss are the ones used by the Sandforce chipset to handle garbage collection function and and try give you consistent speed in the time.
In every case you have all my respect for your bravery and spirit of invention!

Hi have converted my Powerbook to sata aswell.
With a 44Pin IDE/SATA Adapter. My Adapter looks a bit different.

    Mini-7-15-Pin-Female-SATA-HDD-SSD-TO-2-5-Male-IDE-Adapter-Converter-For.jpg

But i have some issues with it.
It's like the HDD would always go to sleep after 1-20 sec.
So everytime i open a new Window in Ambient or MorphOS has to access the Disk.
The Drive needs to spin up. And SSD Drives won't work at all.
Maybe it has something todo with the Revison of the Adapter.
As you can see on the Picture above the Adapter has AS331 V1.3
    my Adapter is MCA004 V1.3.
Could you guys please check what Revision you have in your Powerbook working?
