    BTW this would be of use for others too, I know there are more peg2s in the same situation...

    Although I didn't use it much (I didn't even buy a final version of MOS or OS4) I'd like to get my Peg2 in shape again and I'm in the process of trying to find the northbridge to have someone with appropriate equipment do a reball. I can't find the chip new anywhere, does anyone know a source ?
    I think the chip is a MV64361 (I don't have the board with me ATM)..

    Thanks

    There do not appear to be any of these available.
    I could only find Marvell Discovery III chips.
    Obviously these will not work.
    Is your Northbridge damaged?
    Why couldn't it be re-balled?

    THAT is not a good source.

    Given the symptoms it most sure is. I'm not completely sure of course but they're the same symptoms that other users had, sometimes booting, other times not, HDD light allways on etc..
    From what I've read a new chip is much more secure, a simple reball of the same chip has a change of getting broken again sometime after and sometimes not even working, as the chip might be damaged already.

    @vpolluks

    Thanks, but like Jim said, not a trusted source. And imagine if the chips are fake or of the wrong revision..

    I guess I have this kind of troubles on my Peg2 too (latest rev).

    I had regular freeze at boot, or later with the IDE led locked on and all IDE accesses frozen. At the beginning it was quite rare (once a month or so), but after a few years it became quite unusable (lock every few hours).

    As a work-around I avoided usage of IDE0 (looks like I have no issue with IDE1) and used à SATA PCI card for my main HDD. By now, it works perfectly, I have no freezes anymore (well, it could happen that it won't boot at power on, but it's always okay after a reset).

    Do you think it could also be a problem with the NorthBridge?

    It could be. On my first broken board the first symptom was this: random freezes on first power up, the system would freeze, no boot, no pic on screen, hard disk light would stay on. After a reset the machine would boot.

    Sounds frighteningly like the problems that inflict earlier boards with the ArticaS Northbridge. Crashes, then functioning on reboot.
