This is more of a general HW question than a MOS-specific one, but since many (all?) people here seem like DIY types here goes:

I'm trying to decide on a proper IDE SDD or a SATA SSD w/IDE-SATA Adapter in my PB G4. The latter is cheaper by far (from what I've seen), but from what I can tell it involves physically cutting up the innards a bit. (I haven't opened mine up yet.)

The former comes with a 3 year warranty which is pretty compelling.

Anyone here try the latter?

Suppose if you don't want to start cutting/modifying the Powerbook, You can try for the SSD IDE drive. Though I did a mSata 32GB drive in my Mac Mini with an adapter. Works great!

That's an excellent suggestion. I'd totally forgotten about mSata drives.

Thats why after all i put IDE SSD on my PB.

I use an mSATA SSD with a 5v 44-pin IDE-mSATA adapter and PFS3 for the filesystem in my PowerBook 5,8. No cutting required. :)

I just wrapped the SSD and the adapter in insulating material as a precaution.

PATA is a waste of money anyway. Better get a modern SSD with MSATA or SATA. Even the cheapest model will be faster than ide can handle. Some SSDs get slower over time, but even that does not matter for our systems. if they handle 300MB/s or 500MB/s is irrelevant, so just take a proper vendor and the best price option for the size you want.

I prefer SanDisk SSDs. I already have two running 24/7 and my PowerMac will get one soon, too.
