punkbuster is not part of the released q3 sources (for obvious reasons ;) and therefore also not part of the MorphOS port.

Nothing you can do here, just search a server w/o punkbuster stuff enabled.

If you have no luck, feel free to join #morphos irc chat on irc.freenode.net and ask the people. I'm sure someone is always ready to play a round Quake3 and provide a server. :)

    regards,

The Quake III installer downloads and installs it automatically. You don't need to download and install it again.

When you downloaded the MorphOS version of Quake III and then extracted it to your hard drive it should have asked for the Quake III PC CD. Once you put that CD in it runs a script that goest to the ID server and gets the latest updates and transfers all the stuff from the CD it needs. Once done it makes the game playable by a double click on the icon. So you can play when it was done setting up you have the latest version.

If you dont have the original PC CD and a real CD key then you cant play the game.

I did all of that last night - the update takes forever but it does work flawlessly.

So I now have Q3 running nicely - and I have to say Im impressed! I started the first singleplayer level and promptly shot at myself in the mirror!!! (never seen a mirror in a computer game b4!). cool!

So what we need now is a MorphZone Server please!!!

Today i have download a quake 3 arena demo. Sadly, it is not (or very difficult) installable on morphos. Because of that, i had install it on my laptop. In the windows version, i had to more than twenty times make a refresh, to find servers. Perhaps, with morphos is the same problem? :-?

The demo files simply do not work with the newer Q3, something changed that currently makes it impossible to use them, you either have to wait for id-software to release new demo files, for someone to tweak the sources to work with the old ones, or buy the full thing.

I think it's the best, to buy the full version. Is it possible to install the additional team area cd under morphos? Then i would buy the gold edition 8-)

Yes, I agree. Just buy the original game cd full version as you can get it on budget as its an older pc game and they come cheap

I the FPS goes down with my Radeon 7500 when i use 32Bit modes and resolution above 800x600, and in the www.pegasosforum.de someone has the same problem with his Radeon 9200se. Is this normal or is't a bug or are the GFX Cards to slow for 32Bit in Hi-Res?

    I'm running Quake 3 on Pegasos2/G4 with HiS Radeon 9200 SE. I get 25 to 30 fps in 1024 x 768 (a bit too slow) and 50 - 55 fps in 800 x 600 (my favourite resolution).

    Hi magnetic,

please see my tests at PPCNUX.

Does anyone know if the MorphOS Quake 3 Arena port includes Altivec code?

I get 70 FPS at 800 x 600 32 bit on my Radeon 9200 (not an SE) so it could be the SE part causing it?

EDIT: Okay after the tiedemo I show an average of 36.1 FPS. Thats in
the settings you asked for Miky060.

Why Q3 slows down so much in high resolutions? On much slower PCs (a 400Mhz Celeron is not exactly an state of the art cpu) it seems to run faster :-(

Voodoo3 drivers seem to be much more optimized on Windows... Maybe there's a bug and multitexture is not really active? I don't want to sound it as a negative comment, but I would like to know why this important speed differences...

you too do this test so we can compare..

set gfx prefs as in this grab: http://nogfx.free.fr/morphos/q3_prefs.png

    than:
1 - open the console (try with alt + \ keys)
    2 - type "timedemo 1"
    3 - close the console
4 - launch the demo useing the "Demo" voice of the Q3 menu
5 - when the demo is finished recall the console and look at results

Useing the prefs showed in the grab I get only 36 FPS and I am useing a Radeon 8500 (that is the fastest board you can use on MOS). How is his possible? someone has an explaination?

There are 2 problems left with these drivers for Radeon:
Hardware T&L and shaders are not supported yet!

    See:

    http://www.ppcnux.de/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=5599

So we have to wait for Mos1.5 to get more speed with
    radeon gfx cards.

No, the GFX cards (7500 or 9200) are not to slow
    for 32 bit screens. I have played Q3 on a AMDk6-2
with RivaTNT2, and there it was no problem to play
in 1024x738x32. So it must caused by the actual drivers
    for radeon cards!

using 32bit textures with a 16bit screen hasn't much sense, does it? I may be wrong because additional filters may be used, etc, but I don't think so.

How many buffers do you use in the hard disk?
What sound settings do you use?
Do you use another sound card?
