Emulation of audio paula.device? When?

    Hi all,

some months ago, I read some information, that emulation of paula.device is in working progress, but there is still nothing. I have Napalm, Exodus, Earth2140, Payback original CDs, and I couldnt play them. There is also "nice" MiniGLQuake68k, that needs unfortunately paula :o(

Is there anyone, who is interested in making emulation of paula.device? I would like to contact him.

    I suppose you mean audio.device

Neither Napalm, Earth2140 nor PaybackPPC will work even with native audio.device.

You will probably not ever be able to run Napalm on the Pegasos, but as seen in another post here at the forums, there is an AHI version of Earth2140 coming out soon(TM), and for Payback there will also be some solution.

    I don't know about Exodus.

Yes, and Ambient development has also been stopped.

You can write another 10-page rant to the beta2-ml :)

You should ask Miky, I'm sure he has a few ones spare. :)

How nice it would be to have a machine that can run any amigasoftware released from 86 and on... I'd like to see something like AmithlonPPC integrated inside the A/Box... And no, UAE is not a solution, because it sucks! I've only tried the windows version and I had serious problems....

UAE on morphos does emulate aga and paula audio,
you can run old ecs/aga demos and they will work, well
    some that is.

So the code needed to redirect audio device calls to
AHI is inside UAE, just have to extract is and make a
audio device. It's so easy ;-)) hehe

    Bye.

    @timo

    And what ?

Just drivers to use Paula as an AHI-device, not the other way round.

And before you ask, the MOS-driver is supossed for people running MOS
    on CS-PPC/BPPC....

The basic prob is, that most games that open audio.device, don't
really use it, but just want to block it, so they can hit the HW directly,
    without being disturbed.

Emulating Paula would need a heavy MMU-setup, something that
laire outright refuses to be let in into MOS (and for a good reason).

That's just because you guys got crappy computers. I've never, and I repeat, never had any problems with the WinUAE.

Let genesi pay the man who did UAE to make a "module" so that we can just click'n'play what we want.

An Athlon 1GHz/512 MB ram is a crappy computer? What do I need to run it then? An Opteron? BTW, my problem was that, whenever I was pressing a keyboard button down, the emulator was freezing. I don't remember if it was the JIT version so this may have been my fault.

Seriously. That wasn't really what i meant. You had bad luck i guess. But if you have stable hardware, winxp, correctly installed drivers, updated BIOS, no crappy software installed (which can make the system unstable) there shouldn't be a problem. I've installed WinUAE on 5 computers and NEVER had one single problem with it. The problem isn't always the software you run, but rather the setup of the computer.
second of all. The JIT version of WinUAE was released a LONG time ago. Several very stable versions have been released since then. You may have been right about some version released 2000-2001 was a bit buggy. :)

UAE is slow. What about Payback (the most famous game on Amiga), it needs Paula, PowerPC and Warp3D (to look nice). Only Paula is missing in my Pegasos :o/

For unknown reasons the Payback developer does not feel like to do an ahi update at the moment.
Perhaps he needs some motivation and we should all write him some emails.

I bet it depends on 68k MMU. No chance it could run in MorphOS.

Implementing custom chip emulation into OS is insane! The proper
emulation of all custom chips from OS is probably impossible anyway.

Implementing Paula emulation could make some sense... but you probably
must emulate CIA hardware and too... Maybe even more.
