What gamepads/controllers are guranteed to work with MorphOS

I've got an Xbox 360 controller and a PS3 controller, both connected via USB and neither seem to work. Unlike the Xbox controller the PS3 controller is recognised in Trident as running but when ticking 'Track Incoming Events' no incoming events are triggered, nor does either controller work in games.

I also have a Futuretronics USB Strikepad which is recognised as running and I can track incoming events on, however the direction pad is all messed up and not working correctly, some keypresses on the direction pad are not tracking at all depending on the combination the direction keys are pressed in.

So my question is, what gamepads are guranteed to just plug/play and work?

Once I know what works I'll go pick one up tomorrow.

The xbox 360 Controller is bond via usb class to sensors.library and not via HID, so it will not dump any incoming data in usb prefs, it just works.

The PS3 game pad requires a start command to respond, so it does not work by default. Chances are high it gets supported later via sensors, too.

I used PS2 Controllers with HID interfaces as well as Wii Kontrollers with HID interface and they all work out of the box. The PS2 ones even support rumble like the Xbox one.

It should, as long as it really is "genric", it's not possible to tell for sure without trying (or finding out if someone else has tried).

Most probably are "standard HID" nowadays, although f.ex. PS3 pads require some "startup" signal and X360 pads are also proprietary (but separately supported in MorphOS)

Of course one good option for "generic usb controllers" (especially cheaper ones often feel rather crappy) is f.ex. PS2 pad adaptor, especially if you already have such a controller.

You may need to issue a Directory Scan in USB Classes panel to make sure the xbox360.class is loaded.

Tomee brand SNES and NES style USB controllers work well.

When I plug in my Xbox controller this is what I see in Trident. I've tried a game and the controller is definitely not working.

Which game? I think you need to try one that supports sensors.library.

As jaca already pointed out you need to hit class scan once and save settings. The device is not bond to the xbox360.class, so it is non operational.

If I go to Trident, highlight the xbox 360 controller and click 'class scan' nothing happens or changes and I get the error message:

Warning : cdcacm.class : Unable to load modeswitch datafile...

    ?

One of the green lights around the home button will light up on the 360 controller if it's found and enabled. You can try GenesisPlus, FCEU or BattleSquadron to test the controller. (plug-in before starting the game/emulator and configure controls within the game)

'xbox360.class' needs to be in the Poseidon USB Classes list.

    - Select 'USB->Classes->Dir Scan' in USB Prefs.
    - Also check that 'Sys:MorphOS/Classes/USB/xbox360.class' actually exists.

I think it's planned a wrapper to the legacy 'lowlevel.library' but for now only games/apps that directly support 'sensors.library' will function with the X360 gamepad. (ie: not many) You are probably better to get a generic USB gamepad which will be compatible with a lot more software and games. I like the retro styled ones myself.

I would like to try an actual SNES, Genesis or NES controller to USB adaptor sometime. :)

Yes, the backwards compatibility for legacy lowlevel based games will be included in the next MorphOS release.

Any chance to support Dualshock3? It is difficult to add some "startup commands" for init PS3 gamepad?

I've tried everything, I can't get the 360 controller to work at all, it doesn't even get a green light in Trident.

And the product vendor/id are? I have not tried that controller personally, only the Wireless PC adapter + 360 wireless controller.

Uh, if you've connected a wireless xbox360 pad via USB directly, this cannot work - and wouldn't work on Windows either. You need a PC adapter sold separately.

There are two types of xbox360 controllers - wireless and wired. The old wired one should work via usb. The wireless one needs the PC adapter.

And did you scan the USB classes in USB settings (Dir scan button)? Do you see an xbox360.class there?
