Just wanted to let everyone who is interested know that I have received permission from Paolo Cattani to continue the new VGP HD project based on the game Virtual Grand Prix 2. To learn more, go to the VGP HD project website. It is under construction, but it should answer some questions. More will be available soon.

Oh yeah, there will be high and low res versions of the upgrade.

Impressive, to say the least. Now, someone give me a motorcycle simulator, and I will go crazy!

not entirely on topic, but the Superbike-series on Windows is good, I still play it from time to time.

    Hi JaguarGod, and welcome!

I do appreciate your work on the gfx for VGP2, and it seems other
MorphOS users do as well! This HD version really seems very good...
Will be nice to see the HW pushed a bit further!

And thanks also for the low-res versions. I have a G4, 512MB of RAM
and a good Radeon, so 1024x1024 fits me just nice, but some people
here still have 128MB of RAM and the textures didn't fit! That's
probably the reason you had such requests. BTW, these people probably
    have just a G3 and a Voodoo3, too!

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

I use hires version of cars, game runs slighlty in medium settings. Main problem is a ingame texture loading when you drive on some maps first time, rarely it can destroy textures. I think that is a MorphOS 3D drivers "feature", same things happen when i play warsow or fuhquake with hires textures from http://facelift.quakedev.com/retexture/

    G3, 512MB and 9100L here.

    Thx JaguarGod :-)

With making all three (high, medium and low) res available, people can suit their own need. I have received so many emails from those running the game on MorphOS and I want to make sure I do everything I can to make it playable for all.

Yeah, I have heard that quite a few times before from those running MorphOS. Hopefully with the three different versions (high, med, low) you can find one that fits your setup just right.

Website has been updated with pictures of all of the official 2007 v1.0 carset releases. The actual v1.0 carset will be available tomorrow in high res, medium res and low res. These are the cars that will be released with the VGPHD upgrade later.

Maybe you should read the posts you're replying to, and have a look at
the linked home page too... ;-) 2007 carset, with the new hires (and
also the lower res versions for some of us with less memory or slower
setups) car textures, is already available. The circuits will be
probably released when they will be all ready.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

    True.

Also, the website has been updated with a bunch of new pics. Some are comparisons between the original release and the new one.

Are those new circuits will also include updated routes or changes are going to be only visual?

The plan at this time is to modify the circuits as well as the graphics. Though that does add some time to bottom line. But things are moving along.

Yeah, I am in the process of working on testing and updates for VGP3 along with this VGPHD update. Of course I received permission from Paolo before I announced the update and he is not so much working alongside, but helping out when I run into a problem.

Just so you guys know, VGP3 is unbelievable, even in it's early state. The simulation is superb.

But back to VGPHD, The next few weeks will be quite busy, but I hope to finish a few more tracks and start setting up a few new things.

There actually is one. I originally was going to include it with the 2007 car update, but I will with the actual release.

Also, I forgot to mention, the game utlizes one texture for the tyres (tires) no matter what compound you use. It does not differentiate textures between the soft and hard compound. So whatever texture is used will show. You will have to replace the textures in the 'materiali' folder depending on which you prefer (white line or no white line).

Well, that is hard to say right now. One of the largest hurdles is to get the first few tracks done and that is just about finished. There is still a ways to go, but it is moving along. I am hoping to have the core done maybe in a couple months. Plus or minus some weeks.

Also, there may be a few people that I ask to playtest the high, medium and low versions to make sure the setups for different powered systems works with their specs at a desirable framerate.

This weekend, I should have some news and updates for the site and for testing purposes.

Website updated and a new Tire Package is available for download. The package includes low, medium and high res versions of the softer (white line) and harder (no white line) compounds.

Also, some new pics showing progress.

    Thanks.
