Personally, I just go to http://www.morphos.de/ and press the reload button every 5 or 6 seconds.

I have been serious thinking of updating the hard drive to a OWC LEGACY SSD. Will MOS install, boot, and run on an SSD?

My powerbook is arriving tomorrow, here's to an honest ebay seller (I hope). Will let you know tomorrow.

Earlier PBs use ADB for keyboard and trackpad, no drivers for those. Might be other differences but non working keyboard and pad are more than enough reason to blacklist them...

Even if ADB would come at some point it would be more due to the iBook-G4 (smaller form factor) than supporting older PBs.

yes, no problem. But you won't be able to use TRIM (not a big deal). I have one in my macmini, morphos boots within 2/3 secs.

Is that 2/3 seconds from the pressing the power button, the chime, or the booting screen?

My 1.5 mac mini boots in 2/3 seconds after the white screen flashes up. That's with a ye oldé spiney hard drive,

The "Back-up" PowerBook arrived yesterday from Ebay :) I got it for insurance. It ended up MINT in appearance with no scratches and blemishes. A small ding by on the right side of the CD drive was found after a hard search of the 5,8.
I spent the day with the PowerBook soon to be "Morphed".
A dead aftermarket battery was replaced with a new OEM A1078 with a cycle count of 4!
I will be spending much time with the PowerBook away from the desktop and bought spares again on Ebay and Craigslist.
The memory was upgraded with another 1/2 MB chip, making it now 1 MB in total.
The hard drive was a 40MB Fujitsu? A look at the Apple stock specs said it was to be 80MB. It appears to be a replacement.
The laptop came with no charger. But with charging issues with the first PowerBook meant two spares "65Watts" were at hand. The power report from info showed fresh battery and charging.
The OS X was an old one that and it was time to use the pair of gray Install discs:
    Disc 1 2Z691-5534_A and Disc 2 2Z691-5535-A.
Disc 1 had Apples's Hardware Tes t"AHT 2.5.2" that was machine specific: models 5,8 and 5,9 . Running hardware test and all passed!
    Installing OS 10.4.2 Done
Updating to OS 10.4.11 via Apple's support site on the web. Done
Updating to OS 10.5 # 603-6314 OS X Leopard family pack. Done
Updating to OS 10.5.8 via Apple's support site on the web. Done
Updating Safari to 5.0.6 via Apple's support site on the web.Done
Ran AppleCare Protection Plan's TechTool Deluxe # 0Z691-5891-A All passed.

A new "October of 2005" A1138 (5,8) is ready to MORPH!

I was thinking of getting a netgear WG511t card, then I remembered I've got a Orinoco Gold card that I sometimes use in my A1200, would that work in Powerbook?

If it works in your A1200 then it should have Prism2 chipset. For MorphOS 3.0 there's so far only Atheros 5k support announced.

Strange I got that card too and I wanted to try it on the Mac side in advance. It seems there are only drivers by Orangeware and they were shareware at $15.00. It had a free trial for a limited time to which I avoided :-x

    Hmm odd.
I tried my Prism card in my powerbook, sorta saw the card, but no way could I get it work as network card, apparently MacOS 9 has drivers for it, but life was too short to find out if it would work.

Would a NETGEAR WG511T v2 work with MorphOS for wifi on PowerBook G4 5.9?

WG511T is what I (and AFAIK some of the team-members too) have, so those do work. Unless the "v2" suggests a completly different card...

Actually I just have to slightly different looking 511Ts and they are both working.

Thanks Kronos, I'd been holding off buying a card until there was a confirmation of at least one working model, as the Atheros driver seems a bit picky from the few details I've been able to find.

Will get me a WG511T on order this week :-)

Yes, NETGEAR WG511T is confirmed to work -see previous posts-. Still do not know about v2, I am aksing cause I already have one v2 stocked but ok it seems that my order for a NETGEAR WG511T is getting closer :) However any more details about v2 -working or not- will be more than welcome.

It seems that Kronos' first card (PY3WG511V3) is a v1 and the second card (PY3WG511TV1H3) a v2:

    http://www.wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_WG511T_v1
    http://www.wikidevi.com/wiki/Netgear_WG511T_v2

So Kronos confirming that both those cards are working with MorphOS implies both v1 and v2 being supported by MorphOS.

Looks like I've got a v2 card, if someone wants to send me a copy of MorphOS 3.0, I may get around to testing it, and putting the results on here.

The Orangeware web site looks dead BTW, which is a shame as the card is apparently a lot faster than the airport extreme.
