Yes, I fully agree. The point of having threads is for people with different ideas to come together, get along, and hopefully forge ideas for the future, develop relations, and so forth.
At least that was the old definition of "community". Now a days, especially since the advent of the internet, and especially in cases of ideological despotism, "community" has taken on a different meaning, in which case it merely defines a collective of people with common ideas, backgrounds, and goals working together to further those goals whilst excluding all opposition.
Diversity helps keep us on our toes, it helps give us a glimpse into worlds, ideas, and possibly feelings that we might not have had had we remained in our safety zone where everyone thought pretty much like we do.
Now mind you, I don't feel the diversity should be forced upon anybody. And I do not feel that it is to anyone's benefit to do as the Roman's do just because you are in Rome, but in regards to one's personal development and the potential wisdom they pass on to their children, I feel it is important to encourage one's self to do (within the bounds of your own standards) what you might not usually do, or to go to a place you may not usually go, or to hang out with someone you might not usually hang out with and so forth, even if it makes you or the both of you uncomfortable. Again, how else are we supposed to grow and broaden our horizons? How else can life remain fresh and interesting. Besides, we all gotta die some day, maybe even painfully if we're lucky, but we all get to do that too, so why shouldn't death also be a mysterious journey that we look forward to, not so much in a morbid way per say, but in a manner of curious fascination. (Just as an example).
No sirs/mams. Buy silencing such a thread we would be the same as the cowards that censor relevant speech, and relevant activism, and relevant, preaching, and teaching, and singing, and dancing, and exploring. By leaving such a thread open, we are showing that we are mature enough to govern our own selves, our own choices, and what comes out of our mouths.
Because after all, this thread has not been full of foul words, it's been people contributing thoughts, ideas, and feelings according to their own exposure to the "bigger picture."
@Jim, thank you kind sir! :)
