    Ok, it does seem to work on my Ibook but crashes on loading on my G5. Not all the time, but once every 3 times or so.

    Have you tried to lower the graphics, especially the texture detail?

    I didn't actually since it's a better gfx card on my G5. Plus, the game itself runs smootly. You think it still might be the problem?

    I'm not talking about the performance, but about reducing the memory footprint. Run the game in a window, and keep an eye on the memory gauge screenbar. If it's anywhere near 100% during loading, then you have to reduce the texture detail.

    Could his problem running this game on the G5 PowerMac be related to the fact that the G5 only supports 1gb of RAM, instead of the 1.5gb RAM on all other MorphOS hardware (except the Efika of course)?

    Or has the 1gb RAM limitation on G5 PowerMacs been removed without me noticing?

    AFAIK G5s are still limited to 1GB RAM, that's why I'd like to know whether lowering texture detail fixes the problem, or not. The game consumes a lot of memory during load time.

    I confirm that on G5 the game freezes during the loading of saved games very often. I have tried out what you suggested: reducing the texture details in window mode but I haven't realized any relation between memory usage and freezing.

    If it crashes during loading saved games, then reducing the texture detail indeed won't help. Could you send me the output from logtool?

    After playing it some more, it did work quite well. But now every time I try to play the "Bakura" mission it freezes.

    How do I use that?

    It's rather MorphOS that supports no more than this on the G5. The G5 itself supports several GiB RAM, which can be confirmed by running different OS than MorphOS on it.

    > instead of the 1.5gb RAM on all other MorphOS hardware (except the Efika of course)

    The Efika 5200B isn't the only MorphOS-supported platform that's restricted to less than 1.5 GiB RAM (see Mac mini G4, most G4 iBooks, some G4 PowerBooks).

    Then again, you never know how long that site may host that file for. For those without it, it is always nice to be able to get everything all in one spot. Though again, if you can't afford the space or bandwidth, why bother/ :)

    It's not about the space or the bandwidth, it's a ~9MB file after all. I just don't want myself any possible legal trouble, if it's already available elsewhere.
    The x-raiders.net goes back to 2002, and according to archive.org the JK3 downloads has been up since 2007. But even if that site would go down, I'd offer that file separately so my packages wouldn't have any non-free content.

    It's just a performance warning, not an error message. The warning wasn't really meant to make it into the release drivers, but it did anyway. It apparently sounds so scary that people tend to think it's a bug :P

    It sounded scary enough to stop me from reading the rest of the log. I'm going to check out those offsets with addr2line, but since all the bad memory accesses happen inside dynload.library, I may not be able to tell what my code does wrong.

    I disassembled the executable, and it indeed croaks on dlclose() from dynload.library. Unfortunately I can't peek into that library, so I can't tell why.

    Can you send me some logs, and/or give me more info?

    ps: I was not aware that the game crashes very often, at least others have not reported it.

    Game works without problem on intro/training mission. But when it goes to "real" missions it crashes when you hit "begin mission" button. I will send logs tomorrow.

    I was just contacted by Roschmyr, who had similar issues. Lowering the texture detail solved the problem for him, just as it did for many others. The game uses more memory during load time than ingame, I can't stress this enough.
    All the logs including the one posted earlier in this thread point to the memory allocation function in exec_of_604e.elf. I don't know what the game does that throws the memory allocator out of whack, but reducing the texture detail (and the memory usage) gets rid of the crash.

    If it dies in dlcose() you can safely assume it's memtrash (either screwing up task or global memlists by overwriting global variables or allocated memory).

    It dies at various places. I have logs where it dies in malloc() from the main program, or in tinygl.library or dynload.library. The common theme is the offset where the invalid accesses happen:
    Quote:

    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x0001dd78

    and

    Quote:

    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00008ab4
    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00008ab8
    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00008ac0
    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00008b20

    or

    Quote:

    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x000078d0
    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x000078d4

    or

    Quote:

    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00007700
    SRR0 -> exec_of_604e.elf Hunk 0 Offset 0x00007708

    I know it must be trashing the memory list somewhere, but since it only manifests later, when the next memory allocation happens, I couldn't find the cause.

    Are you sure you've set a high enough stack size in the program? You should have

    Quote:

    int __stack = x;

    somewhere in your program, where X is your desired stack size in bytes. Random crashes like this could mean a stack overflow.
