I've been at this topic before, and it seem like it always irritates someone. But i don't care since i like basic.
I've been using Purebasic for some time now, which is a cross platform BASIC syntax language (Windoze, AmigaOS, Linux output in Nasm), with the choice for in-line asm if you want to....
I like it a lot. Makes small and really fast executables.
Is someone else using Purebasic than me?

I'm thinking of the idea of a PPC Native Purebasic compiler. That would be great. There has been some discussions going on, but nothing concrete.
Main coder Frédéric Laboureur has shown interest in doing so. ( *hint* *hint* bbrv maybe you could arrange with Frédéric getting himself a free Peggy or something)

So come on and help me out here.....

Can't tell about others but personally I would be ready to spend $$$
on it. Even Hardware-cleran 68k version would be good for Pegasos use
but of course PPC native woudl be a lot better.

I don't care half a cent wether it is 68k or native :-o

Oh man, you got me there!!!

Yeah. The executables should be PPC native then. :-)

    Hi,

I did contribute the cause by paying for it. It's really good. But it looked like they went more to the Windows platform. But would be nice if they have a MOS version. :-)

That's why i started this thread. To get something started. This is what i can tell from the homepage:
-" 68000 and 68020+ support (PowerPC currently in standby)"
That's a real shame, but it proves there is an interest in the PPC version anyway. They are old 68k coders, and could get it done with the right backup... and people.

Yeah, I've been pushing for that too- I talked to Frédéric several months ago, and he said he was interested, and might think about it after the Mac port- but as it was only a hobby thing now, and he didn't have much time to spend on it.

An important point here, is that there's a large amount of Blitz Basic2 games that would port easily to PB.

This would be very valuable for any STB projects Genesi is involved with- ie: lots of smallish games that would run well on an STB.
But I assume that you'd need a compiler to make PPC code, as there wouldn't be room in the base model for a 68k emulator.

I'm talking to the Amiblitz2 guy (open-source Blitz Basic2), but so far he's not interested- maybe later if MOS get going more (he's helping getting it running in 68k mode though).
There's also Mattathias BASIC=- http://www.liquido2.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB_14&file=index , but how long that takes to get going I don't know.

PowerD is good too- but isn't compatible with Blitz sources, so that leaves PB really (for Blitz sources)- I think people should contact Frédéric Laboureur, to give him incentive to port to MOS. :)

I'll talk to Frédéric and then talk to bbrv if he's interested- we may have to wait for Peg2s, as I don't know if there's any Peg1s left.

Yesyesyes, we need some PPC Basic, and if it has a proper editor then
I would actually pay for it.

    Just a "me too"! :-)

Would really like to buy such a package! What a pity AMOS was that system-unfriendly. Liked Amos Pro very much.

    Way to go man!!
Or maybe we should talk to bbrv instead. so that he can contact Frédéric in person. I dunno.
How promising this could be!! :)

I mailed bbrv a few days ago about this, after they asked for questions on ANN, but haven`t got a reply yet...
I`d love to see PB ported to MorphOS, I use it for coding on Winblows, and it rocks..
I`ve also been asking Fred to port it but he`s not sure..maybe seeing that a lot of people want it would change his mind ?

Ok, I've talked to Frédéric- he said that he's currently doing the Mac OSX port of Pure Basic (which is PPC native)- after that's done, he said he'll think about a port to MOS.
But he made it quite clear, that's only a 'maybe', not a 'will', do one!

As for BBRV, I'm keeping them informed of any developments- I've mentioned to Frédéric, that I should be able to get him a Pegasos for free if he wants one.

I know Frédéric well from my Blitz Basic days, and there's no point in discussing it with him any more for the moment- once he's made his mind up, that's it- come back in a couple of months and ask again! :) But users showing interest in a MOS port may still have a positive effect. :)
