Hi Carsten, nice to see you have been busy working on improving this program.

Though, for me on my Mac Mini 1.5GHz, v0.3 seems a little more flaky than v0.2 and I had a few system errors, and had to reboot a few times as the programs had 'neutralised' MorphOS by sending the CPU activity to 100%, even though the program had caused the errors, and obviously was not going to do anything else, or even close/quit until I rebooted.

I just checked out the improvements to the program, and using the supplied Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, that I used as my example of the shortcomings of version 0.1, and I have just updated the other MorphOS forum page with those details - the link

I got the Archie comics to load up, but the Terrific_Comics_22 made with nitropdf I could not get it to load, and I had those issues/errors with that epub file. Of course the 'Die Zukunft ist schön' epub I could only find as a commercial/payable epub/book so I was not going to pay for a book in Deutsch that I don't have an interest in reading, as a result, I could not load that file to try it out.

I wish you success with this program, just keep at it.

Please tell me the system errors. On my system i did't get errors at all.

I loaded v0.3, and managed to load The Woman in White, then the Archie_Comics_School_Daze, but when I loaded the Terrific_Comics_22 I got the following errors from the Log Server

The program has now become inactive, and the Terrific_Comics_22 was the program that failed to load, the ArchieComics loaded and the images were viewable, so that is better than v0.1, so you have definitely improved the program, it still needs more development/debugging it seems, but thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Keep at it, I know you will succeed - hopefully very soon, but I get the CPU running at 100%, and have to reset after this error, so it really needs fixing.

here is a problem: I get no such error messages.
I have a MacMini 1.5 G4 and PowerBook G4 1667.
I have a pure CD installation.
I test my program on both computers.
Please give me more information about your system.
Is the Pack Kryalis installed?
Do you have something in MOSSYS: changed?

To see the issues launch "WipeOut" and "LogTool". The first one will slow down you system as it applies tons of additional memory operations. It will report any false use of free mem (wrong size, wrong pool, wrong address) and also will apply boundaries around each memory block allocated. Thisallows to track illegal memory accessing before and after a memory block. e.g. allocating 5 bytes and storing "hello\0" will cause an error as you broke the upper boundary.

Wipeout cannot be removed, it eats memory like hell and slows down your system, but (unless you have some application internal memory tracking) it is the only way to find these errors.

Just add some debug lines around free memory calls, so you can see which one is causing the issue. It is always a good idea to add stuff like __FILE__, __LINE__ and __func__ to any of your functions to have a point to investigate.

The 'special' version you made available did load the Archie comic file, and the Woman in White - BUT with the same issues I have already mentioned, lots of text missing from each paragraph/page/chapter. The Marvel Comics 'book cover' did load, and the title in the heading information, but the actual comic itself, the pages/images, did not load at all, BUT I did not get any error messages - well not for the moment.

Maybe some of the issues that Geit has mentioned are applicable to solve/fix the errors that are making epub-reader unstable on systems other than yours, which you say is not exhibiting these issues.

I should also mention that, unlike many other programs I use on MorphOS, epub-reader, and some of your other programs, like Scriba, do not seem to use the 'Intuition' side of the OS as intuitively as other program do. What I mean is that when I open a file in a specific directory, and then want to open another file, epub-reader 'loses' where it last read a file, and reverts back to its root directory, so you have to go and locate the directory you want to access all over again, which seems counter-productive to making a program as efficient as possible, while utilising all the 'intelligent' features of MorphOS, much of which has been inherited from Amiga OS.

I find out, that you try to load epub's with DRM.
The version 0.31 crashes if you try that.
In lthe next version it's impossible to load other filese than epub (withouit DRM).

As far as I am aware I have not attempted to load any DRM files.

I downloaded The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins which is a free download book file (epub), and just the other ones already used by you with the program, as the ones linked/referred to by yourself - if they are DRM files then this was not mentioned by you, and maybe should have been.

Epub-Reader 0.32 Binary

New:

+ Loads only EPUB's without DRM
+ Display lists
+ Display the table of contents of EPUB Version 3.0 - files.

Now Epub-Reader checks all files if it is a real EPUB (Not a encrypted one)
Second it checks, if the file is corupt.
If all passed well, it loads the file.

With this version Epub-Reader starts to read the version 3.0 of this format.
In the version 3.0 the table of contents is displayed as seperate page.

In the next version Epub-Reader displays SVG's and support EPUB's with Sound.

OK, I downloaded the 0.32 version, and tried a couple of files, but I get the same results basically, with the same files. The Marvel Comics file loads the epub book cover, and some of the header information, but no images - then again no crashes at this point. So that's a good thing, IMHO.

The Archie comic loads OK, but the right page scrollbar indicates there is a lot more if you scroll downwards, but the scrollbar is behaving incorrectly, or not yet been fully implemented correctly. The header information is displayed, and the 'thumbnail' image of the bookcover displays as I believe you intend it to. So that file seems to be read sort of OK'ish.

The Woman in White, which is purely text based is loaded, and the header information is loaded correctly, and the thumbnail displays properly, but the text for the book is a bad as ever, with the majority of the text of the book not displayed at all, so there are sometimes just 2 words on a line, and that usually is the end few words from a paragraph, so for each line that would have been a paragraph of text, but only a few words from each paragraph are being displayed, so the book is unreadable, and makes no sense, as it is being displayed as about 3% of the book, so about 97% of the text is just not displayed.

I should also mention that the Chapter information (III) is cut-off at the top so the Chapter title is not being displayed properly. I tried to add a screengrab to hope to make things clearer, but the 'Select File' and followed by the 'Submit' option does not seem to want to load the file onto the site/thread, as I just get an error message from this site, which states:

error 1: /var/www/morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/cache/attachments/ does not exist or is not writable.

OK, I am glad you have explained more about the corrupt nature of the Marvel Comics file I was trying to display - I was never going to get that working then it seems.

I will also wait to hear back from you about the Wilkie Collins "epub" The Woman in White, once you have fixed the issues with displaying that book correctly.

Also, thanks for the update to version 0.32, I will give it a try later this evening.

First: The textrenderer is fixed now, so the e-book "collins women in white" is now shown correctly.

Very well, Hyperlinks do work! There is even more text displayed (in Bartimaeus-trilogien_2_-_Golems_oeje). But since version 0.32a we have that strange scrolling behavior.
