Most likely not as there is no way for the MorphOS team to clearly identify the current legit license owners. Imagine person A sells his PPC Mac including MorphOS keyfile to person B but doesn't delete all instances of the keyfile after the sale. If the old keyfile remains valid for new MorphOS/x64, person A will be able to register an x64 board for that (if he does so before person B does) although he is not the legit license owner, especially if person B did not ask the MorphOS team to change the keyfile owner's name.

That's Andreas we all know and love. Four point 1, OK?

And what if (hypothetical) MorphOS 4.0 runs both on PPC64 and AMD64? I know, not likely to happen, but...

Problem remains the same: person A will be able to register an x64 or PPC64 board for the keyfile (if he does so before person B does) although he is not the legit license owner.

The thread went silent. No new reg numbers, people? C'mon, share them with us. It would be especially interesting if there's a visible bump after official price drop.

You think so because of added X5000 support? ;-)

OK, in light of that data the decision to lower the price makes much sense.

Here's the PNG version and here's the PDF, see for yourselves.

I could but I don't have any data from that period. The last reg number is from 22.10.2016 (given by Andreas) and the first mention about price drop is from 26.10.2016.

EDIT: Ah, there's one from Debaser. I'll get that done soon(ish).

I think the "key is bound to the hardware" is a hindrance for many, it kept me from registering MorphOS for many years because I had an old G4 that could run MorphOS but without sound - so I didn't really want to shell out the money for a keyfile locked to that computer. On the other hand, most people that buy MorphOS seem to buy more than one license and that would probably not have happened if the key was not bound to the hardware. Also piracy is a problem.

I think the MOS-team generates more money because of it, but I personally would have liked it more if the key was yours and free to use on as many machines as you want. But I understand their decision...

Bounding to hardware isn't ideal, but in the many years you are moaning about this issue has any of your hardwares broken down? I mean instead of years of grumbling you could have enjoyed an unlimited MorphOS experience on a machine for years now. And if a reg'ed machine eventually breaks the MorphOS team is known to issue a new key for a replacement hardware w/o much hassle.

But I agree: in an ideal world the MorphOS key would be not bound to a certain hardware und cost would be lower as well, but in an ideal world there would be no cancer or war, too. Unfortunately the world is not idal. But it is on us to make the best out of it.

Thanks for sharing. But that number somewhat contradicts #3413 on Nov 2n, 2016. Did you use the Regtool to get the payment link on Nov 7th or earlier?

I don't why it contradicts but as I see after checking my emails, I was received my first email from MorphOS support on Oct 30th so I used the Regtool in same day. Then a few days later I wrote that I can't use Paypal for payment, so Frank was sent me wire transfer information and I finished payment. Support team was received the reg fee on Nov 7th and same day I've got my key file. I also checked again my payment link for PayPal, it's showing #3408.

For the purpose of this thread, it's more important when you got your first email (Oct 30th) because that's when the number is created (it's in that email after all). Normally (i.e. payment completion directly following receipt of first email) the difference doesn't matter because the MorphOS team is usually very fast at issuing the keyfile. In cases such as yours (i.e. payment completion only after some days passed), it's better to give date of first email so to not cause contradictions with other users' data.

I received my keyfile on 12/4/2014, but my PayPal history doesn't show an invoice number. I guess it had been longer than I thought since I registered my copy. Just passed two years.
