MorphZone : : Release the HostageWare!
Posted By: Targhan. on 2005/6/21 18:06:32
Coming Soon:

Hostageware! Yes, some of our favorite developers have software sitting on their hdd's uncompiled, unfinished, or even just missing documentation! Several of these unnamed developers approached me about making a bounty for these unreleased projects, and one can only feel sorrow for the applications that are being held against their will!

Enter MorphZone's MuForce, dedicated to freeing those titles held hostage! An example of such software being held hostage is jacaDcap's sshcon, a MUI environment for OpenSSH.

Well, opening a bounty for such software that exists, but is being held in a damp dark dungeon, is, well, silly. Someone else could reproduce work, waste hours researching whether they could code a project for the bounty. That's not what the bounty project is for, it's for software that we need, but isn't available. Not for software that isn't available simply because it's unreleased, due to lack of motivation, laziness, or time.

With that stated, MorphZone is creating MuForce (pronounced moo-force, as in the greek letter "m"), a special task force to locate software being held hostage, and to get that software or sources (if pre-beta) released!

MuForce, just like the bounties, will take donations, and the pot will grow until the developer (terrorist?) can no longer ignore the will of the user-base! Be a part of history, join MorphZone's MuForce today!

Can we relase this hostage?

Basicly as configurable as MUICON, SSHCON has some additional tweaks making it easier to operate in xterm compatible environments. It also features a server address book that can store your passwords and has all the great things of the upcoming MUICON - page drag & drop, search function. New PowerTerm version allows it to fully utilise xterm capabilities such as screen swap, mouse tracking or utf8 handling (with ttengine.library by Grzegorz Kraszewski).

SSHCon is being held against it's will by known Software Hijacker: JacaDcaps

The biggest hostageware is MorphOS v1.5. Will MuForce do anything about it? I also heard that there is an unrealased version of Frogger movie player lying on its authors hard drive...

Well this is a sign, that developers not releasing their software are rewarded with money, while those releasing it for free as soon as it is ready, get nothing. Important lesson.

Frogger is shareware. If you want to support it, just register it.

This is a very good point... While i agree with the bounty project, i think this MuForce stuff is just plain stupid. 99% of not released stuffs are not released, because they're not ready to be released... And why people want to pay for half ready software, and why people want to support developers who are not finishing their projects?

On the other side, i think jacaDcaps released quite a few very important things in the past for MorphOS, so i don't think he'll just sit and wait releasing SSHCON without a good reason.
