According to this article on The Register, Freescale, the earlier semiconducter company launched by Motorola, has applied for an IPO with the SEC.

Freescale hopes to raise nearly two billion dollars from this IPO, and individual stocks will cost less than $20 each.

From the Register's article Quote:

Shares will be traded on the NYSE under the FSL symbol.

As yet, the date of the IPO remains unknown, but that's likely to be revealed when Freescale registers its exact IPO sale price.

Business news reports say lately that this could be a big year for IPOs. Google IPO is the 8000 lb. gorilla in the corner but overall the IPO situation is supposed to bode well for a number of companies. Great if Freescale does well.

It will be great when the whole sorry X86-Windows paradigm is over and done with and we are all on to something better, a new set of machine-human interfaces. Something more modern, lower power, and better for you.
