    Great news!
I just tested a little bit on my PMac G4 with Radeon 9000.
Quak3 is about 6 fps faster than on MorphOS 3.3.
Transfer runs also stable and fast when downloadng large files und does not take 100 percent cpu time anymore.
MorphOS gets really better and better!

I will now test on PMac G5 with Radeon 9600XT.

    THX!
    regards

Thank you very much MorphOS Team!

Lifetime free upgrades for a hundred quid is just outstanding. :)

Upgrading my PowerBook 5,8 as I type this and will upgrade my G5 7,3 and register it next week.

Can I ask when the SDK is due to be updated?

    Thanks again!

Great update, thank you MorphOS Team!

So, what powerbook models support non-native resolutions now? I can't get any non-native resolution listed in Screen prefs on my PB 5.9..

    Cheers!

    Very good news!

    Nice Christmas Present! :-D

    :bloons:

    I'm curious about this part:

    Devs/Monitors/Virtual
    * Added a special Virtual monitor window that mirrors the monitor's contents

Could someone elaborate a bit on this?

    Also: "C/WaitForLib"

Again, congratulations to the MorphOS Team and to all MorphOS users!

Great news! I have already updated MorphOS to 3.4 on my PowerBookG4 (5.8).

    1st question.
Why ModeEdit isn't available in Settings->System? I have to launch the preferences from CLI using:
    mossys:prefs/preferences mossys:prefs/mprefs/monitors.mprefs

    2nd question.
Why screenmodes with very low resolution (320xXXX, 640xXXX) blinking like on AmigaPAL? :) I have already tried various parameters in new screenmodes.

    3rd question.
Why non-native resolutions on PowerBookG4 with screen proportions 15:10 (1440x960) are in proportions 4:3 (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768)? I had to create 720x480 and other modes for 15:10 screen.

What a nice surprise. Works nicely so far.
But discovered a little flaw with the enhanced dipslay functions in conjunction with WipeOut/W3D wrapper).
After quitting Wipeout I get corrupted gfx on Ambient screen with enhanced display. For example the panel area (with transparency) is flickerig like mad. Gets back to normal once enhanced display gets unselected (and stays normal when selcting enhanced display again).

Seems great so far, slight error in the release notes:

    Applications/GfxSpeed

    It is in Applications/Benchmarking/GFXSpeed.

Not really that important of course!

For the last six months the battery level monitor in my PowerBook 5,8 has not worked at all, it just displayed a question mark in the screenbar.

After upgrading to 3.4 it now works properly again. Thank you very much MorphOS Team! :pint:

Working amazing on my G4 MDD with a 9600XT in it. Thanks for all your hard work and keep it up!

Although RTCW did lock up my system completely at the start, not sure if its the game or a driver issue. It looked amazing on the intro before that.

The modes are preconfigured. There's no reason to edit them on a PowerBook really.

I just installed 3.4 and man does it fly! OWB loads pages much faster, maybe just as fast as Firefox on my Windows 7! And Quake really does fly! I tried GLPanQuake because it was so sluggish on 3.3 (I tried it before installing so I could tell the difference) but on 3.4 it's fast. Oh, it's fast and that's on my 9600XT.

I really am impressed! MorphOS has become so much better since only 3.1, when I first tried it! MorphOS devs, I salute you!!

My PowerBookG4 has resolution 1440x960. It is 15:10. The preconfigured modes have resolutions: 640x480, 800x600. They are 4:3. It is wrong proportions. I would like to use for some games for example 720x480. It is half of native resolution and proportions are correct (15:10).

The "blink effect" is visible on very low resolution (320x240, 640x480). Preconfigured modes are blinking too. :(

I can also confirm that movie playback works a lot better! Before I couldn't play this in Full HD without lag on my G5 2,7 GHz. Now, I can play this with between 80-90% CPU usage. I'm even playing it at the same time I'm writing this :-D

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcuxGRO1wQA

Ok, the movie of choice is of poor taste. Don't judge me! :-P

[EDIT] Only thing I've noticed is that movies sometimes flicker for a short second once in a while in windowed mode. And also momental gfx distortion. But no sound lag at all, even when OWB eats up 100% CPU. Impressive!!

Really glad to hear that SoundBlaster is working on G5 for recording sound. This is a great release that seems to fix a lot of things. However I did notice that all of my emulator ports seem to not display gfx in overlay mode on G5 machine with Radeon9600Pro. Snes9x is affected in the same manner. On my iBook and PegII no problems. Not sure if it'something in the way I setup overlay or a bug in gfx drivers but it did work ok on previous release.

You might try that new radeon driver tooltype to disable agp overlay ....
If it's that, please file a proper bug report via our report bug functionality in the about morphos/support requester ....

Interesting to hear that from the young man with the glasses :)

I indeed noticed that for some modes the refresh rate seems rather limited. This doesnt seem to happen for all machines, though. So instead of removing that feature completely for 3.4, we left it enabled for some devices to get some more feedback. This glitch will hopefully be fixed for the next update.

Modeedit for powerbook is disabled for good reason btw, if you hack around it, you can just be lucky that it somehow worked, this is definitely not recommended workaround to add more modes.

Yes the server is down at the moment for yet unknown reason. We'll try to get it going as soon as possible, but it likely will take some time since some of the involved parties are at sleep ATM.

Meanwhile the MorphOS ISO images are available at:

The MorphOS 3.4 release notes linked in this news item list many improvements/fixes that are also relevant for non-Apple machines. In fact, only 25 out of the 119 listed improvements/fixes are specific to Apple machines. That's about a fifth.

The Pegasos has had better support than Apple hw for years now. While we still have room for improvement on Apple archs, we've pretty much exhausted the possibilities on Pegasos1/2. You could, however, put an R300 based card into the Peg2 to get faster graphics.

Im my opinion ModeEdit should be enabled on PowerBooks. Users need screen modes with lower resolution than (I'm my case) 1440x960. Aspect ratio (proportions) of preconfigured screen modes should be consistent with aspect of native resolution.

    Native resolution: 1440x960 - aspect ratio 15:10

    Predefined screen modes:
    640x480 - aspect ratio 4:3 (should be 640x426 - aspect ratio 15:10)
    800x600 - aspect ratio 4:3 (should be 800x534 - aspect ratio 15:10)

Of course 640x480 and 800x600 can be available for compatibility with some wrong created games/demos. :)

Additionally there should be predefined screen mode which is exactly half of native resolution:
    720x480 - aspect ratio 15:10

If someone need another resolutions (like 320xXXX), could create in ModeEdit. So the ModeEdit should be available for PowerBook users too.

I only wish the install wizard had a progress bar. It's nerve-racking watching the the demo time-out before the installation finishes.

Is there anone other than me still actually using Pegasos hardware to run MOS....lol :D

I'd love to have it on my MDD PowerMac G4 but it has an nVidia gfx card so that's not going to happen :/

(And yes, I've not had my Peg II up and running for Months and months...!!)
