Classic clinic (diagnostics/repair):
Quote:

The Classic Clinic was very popular at AmiWest 2009, so we're bringing it back for AmiWest 2010. It will be held on Friday 22 October 2010: 5 PM 'til whenever we're done.

We will have at least three technicians to diagnose and repair any difficulties with "classic Amiga" (i.e., Commodore/Escom/Amiga Technologies) hardware. Bring your classic machines and enjoy free food (while it lasts) and great camaraderie.

Here is our AmiWest 2010 seminar schedule.

This year, our video stream to the internet, including these seminars, is being recorded for future reference. If successful, we hope to publish this in DVD format for an as-yet-to-be-determined contribution to AmiWest.
Our expert presenters in past years have had more than enough to fill all available time so we are scheduling fewer seminars with larger time slots.

Things are always subject to change, but here is what we have so far.

Saturday, October 23, 2010

11 AM - A-EON and the X1000

Lunch

1 PM - Carl Sassenrath and REBOL R3 for OS4.

2 PM - Carl continued

3 PM - Steven Solie, Modern Amiga Programming
Quote:

"This seminar will explore the latest AmigaOS API in the areas where
things have changed from the pre-4.x days. I also plan to show
some of the latest Amiga API changes and how you can save time
by using these new APIs."

4 PM - Steven continued, SAM 460ex

5 PM - Show floor closes for banquet preparations.

Sunday, October 24, 2010

11 AM - Jaimie Krueger, Bit by Bit Software

Lunch

1 PM - A-EON and the X1000

2 PM - A-EON/Hyperion, Q & A session

3 PM - Amiga Games competition

4 PM - Competition, continued.

4:45 - Grand prizes awarded

5 PM - AmiWest 2010 closes until 2011

I may have my hands full doing updates, so please refer to the AW thread linked at top, just in case.

so there will be no morphos presentation, but "only" 4 kind of system displayed on tables? its a shame, morphos would deserve a nice demo at the show esp. on a fast pmac. and in the usa morphos is already kinda underrepresented, it would be nice to show the usa crowd how can it be done right:) (i know they can see it at the tables but on a big screen in front of many visitors at once its different).

I think AmigaDave will do a good job on the show. Since no MorphOS-team member is from the US (AFAIK), the effort to go to the US from Europe is quite big. Flight, car rental, hotel - that sums up to the equivalent of quite some registrations. IIRC the MorphOS-Team sends some greetings in the form of a free registration to win at the show.
And: the product is there and actually can convince by quality. I think those visitors that aren't blind or too narrowly focused will notice.

Maybe something could be done about this:

Reading what sundown wrote (and assuming he's a member of the organizing team) it seems that an official MorphOS presentation would be welcomed:

    "Reading what sundown wrote"

yeah thats what i'm talkin about:)
i just think it would be sad if there will be no bigscreen morphos demo on the biggest north-american amiga show, which got overrepresented by os4:)

Absolutely. I know this is a lot to read, so let me link directly to Dave's most complete post:

I think you all have this right, when you talk about representation. My concern, from reading the post, is that Dave has quite a full plate of things planned.
And let's not forget that although you did give some notice on the new release of MorphOS V2.6, that still represents more work/decisions on his part as to how to show off all the machines.

To be honest, at this date, perhaps the best we can hope for, is that someone else can go to the show to give Dave a little support. This may all seem simple to some, but these shows have their own ups and downs schedule wise with further complicate people's efforts to do their talks and demonstrations.
Bottom line, though, I think we need to hear Dave's opinion on all of this, since he's the one "front and center" at Amiwest.

    This
may be of some help. I hope so.
Since there are only currently 2 q/a scheduled, but I suspect other presenters like Carl -will- take questions from the floor, you could ask any questions you like in this thread.
It's the only option I could think of to help bring the show closer to those who can not attend.
I'm lining up someone on the floor (a non-presenter) to offer these questions at the show.

REBOL 3 is a completely different animal and is still at the alpha stage. You also might want to try Syllable which already has REBOL integration and is completely free and open source. Syllable also claims to be inspired by the Amiga.

If you want to see REBOL 3 on MorphOS I think your best bet would be to provide REBOL Technologies with a free license or two for some Apple hardware.

    > REBOL 3 is a completely different animal

I thought so. 7 years is a very long time span in IT.

    > You also might want to try Syllable

Thanks, but I prefer to stay with MorphOS :-)

    > Syllable also claims to be inspired by the Amiga.

I don't think it does nor is. Even in Syllable's predecessor AtheOS there was "nothing resembling the AmigaOS [...] other than the window-borders".

    > provide REBOL Technologies with a free license or two
    > for some Apple hardware.

I guess that two licenses for Carl, one for his Pegasos II and another one for his Efika 5200B, would be okay as well ;-)

That's a real pity. I've always liked your attempts at helping :-)

All Amiwest news, including time, has now been moved to the thread:

    Amiwest 2010 - News

You'll notice a countdown under the heading "News and broadcast information"
    Sacramento is UTC-7.

The prior Amiwest thread I linked to contains a lot of good information, but it covered only pre-show news.

Amigakit is doing some real time summary reporting
