A "Bounty" has been put up for grabs to bring back-up software to MorphOS. ReadMore for the details...

As lots of you know it, when we talk about backuping on morphos, diavolo backup immediatly come in minds.. But diavolo bangs the hardware, was commercial, and the user-interface is obsolete.... Because of that, I searched on aminet and found BackMan.

BackMan has nearly all feature diavolo had. But BackMan wasn't updated since several years. As BackMan is MUI, support XPK and is System friendly, A Native and up to date version for MorphOS is NEEDED. BackMan is shareware... ATM :-)

So your mission, if you accept it, is to contact the author to convince him to give you the sources (SAS/C) and port them to MorphOS and then add some functions like hardware compression support. To motivate coders I'll offer my second DAT DDS2 (4-8GB) external, a PCI SCSI card (supported by MorphOS of course :-), cables and terminations and 3 new DS2 tapes. Of course this hardware is to help you during porting and improvement.

If you're interested, contact me at jehret@fr.genesi.lu

NB : This is a PERSONAL offer, not a Genesi one!

"but diavolo bangs the hardware, is commercial and ugly.... "

How does is it bangs the HW ?
I have had no problem running it on the Pegasos.

Is being commercial a bad thing ?

As for being ugly I would say that it is not up to today MorphOS standards, but this is the case of most software.

Well I think this thread should have been worded diferently. I apreciate alternatives and efforts to sponsor them but bashing such a good product in such a way is a bit of an insult for the Diavolo coder. :-?

Thanks for pointing that out cdfr. I tried to doctor it up a little bit. Since I do not have diavolo here, I do not have the experience to know if it bangs the hardware or not.
