I knew that AMOS had been made a free download but I did not know that the 1.3 source had. Good news. AMOS 2.0 source would be the best thing to get a hold of, it was that much more advanced and refined wasn't it? Should be easier to port.

problem is, much of code is 68000 assembler, if I recall correctly...

First priority should be new compiler, people would be able to compile existing Amos code with it. For new projects, people could code with UAE (untill editor is updated too)

Or alternatively, just use MorphED with some external programs for adding sound & graphics to code.

Problems with existing Amos code, as I see it:

-Graphics are a bit "restricted", mainly color depth. Obviously, new version could support more, but old games don't have colorful graphics, unless someone re-draws them.

-Some of resolutions aren't good for "modern" graphics cards... Such as 320x256, 640x512 or any screenmode with overscan.

-"Graphic tricks" that depend on ECS

-Sounds are restricted by Paula (amount of sound channels etc.)

-There are many old good amos games but are their source codes available? Are their coders still around, and if yes, do they still have the source codes?

-And perhaps the biggest problem of them all:
Third party extensions (and programs that use them)

AMOS might be open source, but most extensions are not. Will be problematic for every program using them.

Maybe the best way would be having completely new commands for all features "modern" technology allows? Such as support for >8bit graphics (I've used only max. 8bit screenmodes with "old" AMOS)

For those that didn't know it: It's perfectly possible to create programs with current Amos, that work on MorphOS (yes, even Pegasos) but programs aren't too "system friendly"... Could well upload example program some day...
