The demoversion of Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood is now available for MorphOS.

Finally, the demoversion for the arcade strategy game "Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood" is available for MorphOS.

Description:
Do not only take on the role of the hero Robin Hood, but also the roles of his faithful vassals and take them to the battle field against the nasty Prince John Lackland. In doing so you are able to enjoy the fabulous English landscape of 1190 as well as the giant castles and funny characters.
The thrilling story is introduced by an award-winning introduction and transfers you directly into the hero?s body with the first mission, in which you have to set the captive comrades free. Take up the battle against the oppressors and free the farmers from the Prince?s reign! Be smart, be fast! Be Robin Hood!

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

- Pegasos G3/G4
- 128 MB RAM
- Radeon GFX Card *
- 1GB of hard disk space (full version only)
- CD ROM drive (full version only)
- Enabling the harddisk cache for the partition you have Robin Hood
installed on will improve the performance of the game.
(MorphOS/Settings/System settings/SFS)

* As the MorphOS SDL implementation (PowerSDL) has removed
Hicolor support for some GFX cards, using the current
PowerSDL, Robin Hood will not run on Voodoo

The full game for MorphOS will probably start shipping by the end of next week.

    yeah, cool! thanks runesoft!

i've got only 1 lil' problem: the game is damn slow on my peggII/g3! even in 640*480 and aith the lowest gfx settings its about a nice slideshow. unplayable...

is it normal? i've played this game on a 300mhz celeron with a gf2, and it was running great on it! i think my peg is much stronger than that crap..:)

I don't know. I tried playing it in 1024x768 (or whatever the highest resolution offered is), and with transparent shadows enabled. This was kind of slow, but it was possible to play.

edit: I have big SFS caches, maybe this makes a difference indeed. :)

On the other hand, the demo hang itself twice in about two hours of play. Well, you can save (at least in the final game), but it would be nice if this bug could be fixed. Music keeps playing, and it doesn't crash the system.

what do you call 'big cache'?

    i have:

    lines 32
    size 16384
    mode copyback

and it is somewhat slow in 1024 (but ok in 800x600) with peg2 g4

On my Peg2/G3 it's also very slow...

So to exclude the filesystem-issue i copied it to RAM: but the speed is still at a better slideshow-level!

Anyway! Its nice to see that there is still something going on with MorphOS :)

Peg2/G4 here and I must say speed is not a problem. In 800x600 it is more than playably fast with all effects enabled. In higher resolution it is still playable, but a bit too slow. But I think this is perhaps because so much of the level is visible at once (lots of animated objects).

I'm not sure that RAM: is so fast actually.

Btw, it has happened to me a couple of times that the game suffers from some bug and slows down to an unplayable speed. It doesn't cause any hits in Analoguer, so it must be something else. And it still crashes from time to time. But all in all I think it is still very enjoyable. I'll have to play it again trying to finish the demo without killing anyone. ;)

strange. many of peg users here in hungary claimed that the game is unplayable on their g4 systems...
maybe its a software problem then?
whish i could make a video to show the "speed" of the game on my peg...

Well I believe you.. because as I said I have also experienced a bug that slows it down very badly. I guess you just have that bug all the time!

It only happened once here, I reloaded the game and it got back to normal speed. So it seems like a rather weird bug.

I tested it just a bit (will try it deeper in the next few days), but it is indeed well playable in 800x600 on my Peg2 G4.
And it seems a nice game, I will consider buying it as soon as it is available.

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

It wasn't playabale on G3/600 here, even in the lowest resolution, with all options turned OFF...

I would consider removing the "G3" from the requirements if I were them...

Anyone buying it to play it on a G3 would seriously be disappointed :/

here with my g4/1ghz and 512mb of ram, the game is choppy/slow.

but when i deleted the libraries of the game and used the others on my system, the game played a little faster than previous (but maybe it's only an impression)

Then you have exactly the same specs as me. This is strange. Of course people may have different ideas of what is "slow", but unless you zoom out the view to a maximum level I really don't think there's anything to complain about, the way it plays here. Definitely something the authors should look into!

In case someone else has the same problem...

If you unarchive the game with Voodoo-X, one of the data files might be named wrong (" " replaced with "_" for some weird reason)

It works if you unarchive it with lha command.

    Hi there,

I have tested the demo on my Pegasos 2 with a G3@600Mhz with 768MB of memory and a Club 3D Radeon 9250 128Mo Non S.E., and it's very very slow at 800x600 resolution (like a slideshow, unplayable) and at 640x480, a big part of the games screen is not visible.

    hi.

with the new powersdl (v11.10) the game became a bit faster, playable on 640*480 with normal zoom. but with higher resolutions (or max zoom out) its still slow as hell. it seems theres room to optimize both robin and the sdl library:)
