Freespace:The Great War, the space simulation game is now available for MorphOS. Works with both datafiles from PC and amiga versions. Also Freespace2 was updated. Read more for details.

Freespace2:

Updated binary includes latest changes from game's author. It also includes improved high resolution mode (put Videocard=OpenGL (1024x768) into .ini file to enable). like better movie playback.

Freespace:The Great War:

About:

This is a MorphOS version of Descent:Freespace. It's based on Icculus port done by Taylor Richards (http://icculus.org/freespace2/)

Requirements:

MorphOS 1.4.x
3D Drivers
powersdl.library by Ilkka Lehtoranta

256MB of RAM should be enough, but i don't guarantee that everything will work fine with that amount.

Radeon card is strongly recomended.

Notes: Network game is not available in this version. Only "Silent Threat" mod was tested.

Installation:

You will need 2CD version to install it with provided install script. It was tested with English and Polish versions. Copy files from this archive to directory where you want the game to be installed and start Install script.

The port also works ith amiga version of Freespace, with small exception of movies which were converted to different format in that version so won't be played.

i had no problems with the previous Freespace 2 files, but with the new version i got this :

    - sometimes crashes when exiting the game
    - high resolution doesn't work, i put the right line into the .ini file but i'm stuck with 640x480
    - some glitches and artifacts on the main menu, not all the time though.
    - movie playback is absolutely the same.

I did a full reinstall of freespace and got same result.

These are new to me. what glitches? and how about a log from crashes?

that's because you need additional file from installation cds. i will upload script which will extract it (it's sparky_hi_fs2.vp). and movie playback only works better (ie. correctly stretched) in highres where it was broken before.

I've got a minor problem with FreeSpace 1

The screens seem to have a incorrect offset and the
mouse pointer seems to almost wrap around the screen
(that is if you move the pointer all the way to the
right, you can see it slighly (a couple of pixels of
it) at the left side of the screen).

This is with a new version of the powersdl.library
(which does fix the keyboard bug) so I don't know
if this is specific to this version of
powersdl.library, (but on the other hand freespace2
    does not show that 'error/bug')

    Nice one Kiero :)
Wasn't able to test it yet, but will do that soon :)

However, where you able to fix the problem with some keys
not recognized in FP2? Also (but I guess this would be Itix to ask) would it be possible to add support for analog Joysticks? Would love to fully use my analog pad, so far only usable with VGP.
