Problem starting with my IBook G4 (A1055)
I downloaded morphos3.2.iso, burned it on cdrw.
I started from cd holding "C" key
    And I see

Might be a problematic cd drive. I had to swap out even my G5 tower's CD drives cause they gave me endless issues trying to install MorphOS. I think there was a way to install MorphOS via USB? Would be useful.

    Anyone got a guide? 8-)

I have the same model and it works fine if the hardware is ok.

In France, we're five owners of iBook G4 with this issue (one of us is a member of the MorphOS Team, me and 3 others guys, all with an iBook G4 12", all Powerbook6,5, 4 A1054 and on A1055, with differents CPU : 1 GHz or 1.2 GHz).

I tried to boot from a USB key(same command line on my Powerbook 5,8 works great) and it stopped booting after "DO-QUIESCE Finished", no more loading on the USB key.

I also tried to format the HD, and I have still the issue. One of us tried to remove the HD and boot on the CD, with no success.

    I post this message for ED : you're not alone ! ^^

PS : We posted on AmigaImpact, here : http://www.amigaimpact.org/2013/05/morphos-3-2-est-disponible/

/me is sure that the MorphOS Team will track and find the bug !

i have the same issue on my macmini 1,5ghz with a usb key, i can't get it to boot (the superdrive is broken, i have no other ways of installing it) the same method works fine with MorphOS 3.1 ISO on this machine.

    Hi!

I have exactly the same issue like ED, even i listen to the cddrive when its booting, it will stop until the same text are posting

    (Quark/OpenFirmware
    console active
    System <PowerBook 6,5> Rev <>
    CPU0: <PPC7447A> Version 0x8003 Revision 0x101
    CPU0: CPUClock 1066666664 BUSClock 133121428
    _)
so, if there is a way to boot from a USB Stick, HOW? :) i remember there exists a tool to "flash" the image on a usb stick like to burn on a cd, is this the right way?

    plz help :)

    have iBook G4 1.2 - 768MB Ram - 30GB HDD - Airport Extreme

sorry for my english, i am from austria and a lovely amiga user that will try MOS :D

We have identified some of the problematic models and are currently investigating the issue.

Also, as for USB boot instructions, I'll try to prepare a detailed HOWTO document soon.

    Hi Jacadcaps,

You wrote this on the MorphOS mailing-list last year and it still works ^^

    Quote:

First of all, get a 3.1 iso, it has an important bugfix which helps
    resolving boot issues from usb.

The guide on the French page is needlessly complicated, here's a simplier
    solution:

    1) Get a FAT32 formatted USB stick, best if you format it under the OS of
    your choice

    2) Get a MorphOS 3.1 iso and copy it to the stick. Mount the iso file
(easy on OSX, MorphOS, and Linux, under Windows - use google, there's a free
utility from Microsoft that does that) and copy the boot.img file from
mac_ppc32 directory on the iso to the USB stick

    3) Plug the stick into your Mac, power the Mac on and get into OF (Cmd + Alt
+ O + F). Make sure to plug it directly into onboard USB, don't use hubs,
etc, this simplifies step 4. Make sure you do NOT have any other USB
disks/sticks plugged in, you'll only waste time trying to boot from the
    wrong device.

    4) Find out the USB path in of to your stick!
    type:

    dev .aliases properties

This will give you a list of root USB devices (hubs) found. Usually they're
    named usb0, usb1, ...

    type:

    dev usb0 ls
    dev usb1 ls ...

until you see something like disk@1 in the list - you've got your path now!

    5) Boot MorphOS 3.1

type (assuming the disk is at usb0 and is named disk@1):

    boot usb0/disk@1:,\boot.img bi umsd0:mos.iso

You should see the boot logo in a few seconds. If nothing happens after
loading, try replugging the usb stick or try a different stick.

Sure it does, but many people either can't find this, fail to follow these steps or simply invent their own solutions (like a pointless replace of bootinfo.txt file, etc).

Thanks so much. Just got around to burning the image to CD and found my iBook G4 only gets as far as noted in this thread. Hopefully a fix comes soon and isn't too complicated!

if i follow thw steps, my ibook g4 couldn´t find any usb drive as far as i can see.. i will try a other, older 1GB only stick that i will make a 512 FAT32 Partition and try it again.. i think my 32GB Verbatim Stick will dont work or whatever (i´d make a 512 partition as well and OSX regonize him without any problems..)

BUT.. i KNOW this will fixed from the cool MOS Team :)

OF see FAT disk and partition
    try
dir usb0/@1:,\ ;first partition first usb port
    or
dir usb1/@1:,\ ; first partition second usb port

dir usb0/@1:2,\ ; second partition first usb port

after the command should show up disk files.
if only the word "ok". that you have to look for another pendrive

if still any result you check disk/pendrive in USB

    dev usb0 ls
    or
    dev usb1 ls

    e.g in OF
    dev usb0 ls
    ff971168: /disk@1

    boot usb0/disk@1:,\boot.img bi=umsd0:mos32.iso

for boot you must use boot.img from drawer mac_ppc32 for mac G4 and mac_ppc64 for mac G5

    Sure it does

I haven't tried, but I'd assume that if MorphOS has issues booting from USB stick in a hub, it might also have issues booting from memory card readers, or at least those with several card slots (at least many X86 systems do).

Sure, the instructions clearly say "usb stick" (although I assume hard drives should be ok too), some people might assume that it's "same as memory card reader with a memory card", unless specifically stated to be "potentially problematic".

I have the same problems as described above with my ibook g4.

I`ve been trying for second day, but with no result. I have followed several instructions, including the usb stick one by Jacadcaps with no effect.
on Mos3.1 it ends up with a msg:
    Loading ELF
    Quark/OpenFirmware
    console active
    _

    MOS3.2:
    Do-QUIESCE finished
even afer followig the guides for usb stick start
