I am not the webmaster of morphzone or morphos-user.ocm, so i can't
do anything to solve this problem by myself. But i can try to contact
someone who maybe can fix it ;-)

Multicast is not really a road blocker. If someone software component would need it, I think it should be relatively easy to add that functionality to the stack. I just didn't look into it since there are other fish to fry.

    geit,

All this bounty would create is support for the cheap crappy printers you stumble over in any super market.

That's a common myth. There are no cheap printers.

At least if you remember to include at least first ink cartridge replacement in the price (which you definitely should), which you need to replace when you have printed 50% of the bundled cartridge (as they generally come with one that's "half full"). And often a full replacement costs more than the printer itself.

One solution which I think wasn't yet mentioned, you could probably configure a linux system to work as a print server, that "converts" incoming print jobs to a form understood by the printer. Never done that, but perhaps someone else has?

(I don't need to do that, but could give it a try some day)

I know! That is what I don´t understand. People can ask, when it comes to gfx cards or other hardware, but printers for 30-40 will be bought blind, without any look onto the ink prices or the compatibly.

But it was so cheap! and works in linux! So it must be open source and a matter of ./configure && make! :-P

    - Little update-
    Things done:
    1) i've written from scratch PPD parser which gets all sensible data from PPD files (postscript printer definition)
    2) Parsed PPD files are stored to IFF prefs files and can be loaded from IFF prefs files too
    3) I've started to write gui generator depending on printer abilities
(i did similar things in SCANdal: http://library.morph.zone/images/1/1c/Scandal_scanprefs.png )

    Plans for next 4 weeks:
    1) port ps2ps CUPS util (full port, not lame/os4 recompilation), beta release for postscript printer users, changes in VPDF to use ps2ps as an option
    2) CUPS raster reggae encoders/decoders

    Small update:
I've created ppd.library for handling PPD files and I'm working on GUI prefs and pstops like utility. It should be included in MorphOS 3.2 in some form (probably connected with VPDF)

    Hey zukow.
We talked about supporting my hp cp1025nw color laser printer which uses this driver:

    http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/

All of the info you need to program it is on this page.

    Any chance of that now?
    :-D

Right now, I'm satisfied with older HP and Epson inkjets I have.
And I can get re-manufactured cartridges dirt cheap.

BTW - I thought we had Postscript support.

I think he is working on advanced postscript support such as PPDs.

    That clarifies things for me.
Andreas and I were comparing low cost Postscript compatible printers quite awhile ago.

Question: Don't we have ghostscript for MOS?
    Doesn't it already support PPDs?
