Here's a strange one. I bought a few USB Sound Cards on Ebay to test out on AROS and MorphOS.

The first one that arrived as a C-Media USB Sound adapter, which AROS and MorphOS detected just fine. In fact it showed up under AHI!!!!

On the down side, once I selected it, nothing happened. No sound would be produced, and on my MorphOS machine, MP3 files would no longer load and play.

So I'm wondering, are these devices truly supported?

Here's a page with a picture of it.

Oh God, MorphOS suffers from the same plaque as my Subway adapter...

Well I guess I got a few USB Sound Cards on the way to use with...

    Nothing. :)

    Andreas_Wolf,

Any chance you could just answer the question instead of posting links to threads were you post links to other threads?. You have single handedly turned this board into a giant never ending loop of links to threads. It's one of main reasons I never come here for help.

Any chance you could read the referenced thread instead of stopping to read at the first posting of mine in that thread? Provided you really want to know the answer to the question I posted the link to the thread as a reply to that is...

    > You have single handedly turned this board into a giant

I make extensive use of that strange thing called the hypertext concept. And if you think my links create a "never ending loop" you're wrong and have obviously not followed them once.

    > It's one of main reasons I never come here for help.

I don't care if you come here for help or what your reasons are to not do so. After all, you can always ignore my replies anyway, can't you? Fear not, I won't force you to follow my links ;-)

Why did you expect it to work? Did you read somewhere they are supported by MorphOS/AHI?

I thought I had read something to that effect.

I mean it's a Sound Card that does not require drivers, sounded logical enough. Sadly USB Support for Amiga is not as advanced as I thought it was.

Too many links, not enough time to read.

In short how does this apply to my eMac? :)

If you think you must follow the links now or never you missed the concept of web forums. Read them as soon as you feel you've the time to read them, easy.

    > In short how does this apply to my eMac? :)

That's exactly what I meant. Only because your eMac with MorphOS can't do it doesn't mean "Amiga" in general can't do it.

Actually, that's simply not how forums work

Person 1: How does this work?

Person 2: Turn on button 4, switch thingy-bob7 to the same address as your external thingy, and that should work, if not try using version 3.24, not 3.25. Have a look at these links where people had the same problem http://link1 and someone who's trying a different program to do something similar http://link2

Not really the same as, well what you do..

Read again. He didn't ask how something works. In fact I didn't even post those links as a reply to a question at all but to a *statement* of opinion. To this statement I made a comment, consisting of a quote and some accompanying links. Those links are meant as a means for him to inform himself of the state of affairs regarding Amiga and isochronous USB transfers, not as an answer to a question you're now fantasizing about but in fact nobody asked. He can read those links now or as soon as he has the time to do so (which he says he now has not) or even never. It's all up to him. And yes, that's exactly how web forums work.

    > Person 2: [...]

I like linking more than copy-pasting, which in turn I like more than paraphrasing. But I understand that's a matter of personal preference. And I hope you understand that I offer my help in a way that I prefer doing it. After all, nobody is obliged to accept my help anyway.

    > Not really the same as, well what you do..

It's obvious that you've not even understood what it is I do.

Possibly, I have little/no knowledge of the subject, which is why I was trying to not post in this thread, but I got sorta dragged in.

The funny thing is that what I actually said (i.e. what are my own words) is even shorter than that :-) And if you add the quote and the links you'll find that is has way more information than your sentence.

Well, yeah the usb situation is a little special here. If you connect an audio device it even provides a matching AHI output within AHI setting, but it is not working.

The thing is that there is a driver which needs the forth protocol type for usb transfer. One for driver setup (control) and another for the audio data. USB audio and video outputs use a protocol named iso transfer, which basically sets proper timing before data accuracy. So if data gets lost on its way to the device (or back in case of a mic) it simply doesn´t matter and the data will not be resend. It is lost.

Since non of the other device types is using such protocol (would be bad for usb sticks :) ) and there wasn´t a driver or application to test with, the fourth usb protocol was never implemented. Chris supported iso transfer with one of his classic usb cards and he made an he made a driver for it, which is part of MorphOS, too. Just without any iso transfer all data gets lost.

    End of Story

Well thank you for the input everyone, even if I did complain a little in regards to how that help came. ;)

Remember, I'm not a coder, layman's terms will work. :)
