Hi, I'm Robdun and I just purchased a old eMac from NextStep(75$)
When I booted the disk, I got a grey screen with an error.
    Error:
    Quark/OpenFirmeware
    Console failed

Is there a way to fix/ workaround this?

    Nextstep specs(side of mac):

    Built on 6/1/2010
    Os:10.4
    Cpu: G4 700Mhz
    RAM: 512MB SDRAM
    Hard Drive: 40GB IDE
    Combo
    No Modem

    Gfx Card: GeForce2 MX

edit: I'm going to maximize the amount of ram and keep the default os.

    Thanks for the reply.
Is there an alternative os that would work? I don't want to be stuck with OS X Tiger.

Various Linux distributions and *BSD systems:

    > Beos?

The last version of BeOS is about a decade old, so I guess you mean Haiku. You can get development builds of it there:

    > Is it possible to swap the grapics card on my Emac?

No, as it is no card but a chip soldered to the mainboard.

The pool of possible choices is quite limited. Next to some Linux and BSD flavours and OSX Tiger, there's only Classic Mac OS (9.2.2 being the latest). If you really want to keep using this machine, you should upgrade the memory to the highest possible amount and use OSX Tiger. (Leopard should be possible with some inofficial tricks).

But I would choose another PowerPC-Mac. Maybe you want to stick your fingers on a Mac mini G4, a more recent eMac (1,25 or 1,42 GHz, which was successfully tested in the meanwhile IIRC) or Powermac G4 AGP.

I can return it for store credit or switch for the same exact model.
They don't have any mac mini's. I'll probably upgrade to 1GB of ram.

eMacs below 1.25Ghz are not supported by MorphOS as they are completly different from 1.25 and 1.45Ghz models.
