    Hi,

Before MorphOS version reaches Apple PPC notebook, I decided to try to assess its overall costs as a refurbished machine. All the more most people claim AOS4 machines are extremely expensive.

I hereby ask for help since I know not much of Apple spare parts' pricing and shops.

I'd like to compile the following items altogether:
    - a typical ebay offer for used Apple notebook in perfect condition (will never get its precise market name until I get one I'mm afraid)
    - plus new HDD fitting to it, lowest capacity available
    - plus new CD drive (a substitute, combo or not), compatible
    - plus the new battery (longest run would be great)
    - also MOS license
    - MacOSX license included, fine

I ask people that already assessed this, because there must be quite a few. I am pretty sure this all costs quite a sum, but at the time of its entry, still, the pricing should be way lower than the Sam box.

Thanks for any help in this quest.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

15'' - I paid 200 eur for a mint condition 1.67HR one (just a bit dirty, no scratches though)
    - HDD/CD drive - why replace if it works? You just paid extra for a mint condition laptop after all! :)
    - Battery = ~50 eur
    - License = 111.11 eur currently

That totals to 361.11, which is pretty nice imho.

My estimation of CD/DVD drive lifecycle is 2.5-3.5 years. I wish to pay to reset this counter. Besides, I might sell a used one, right?

Which by adding a new CD-drive would not much exceed 400 Eur. Which is in fact half of the Sam Box pricing. Nice...

BTW Did you get OSX with your machine?

    EDIT*

We still need another 50 Eur for 80 GB HDD I suppose. I don't want Mint MOS machine, I want refurbished MOS machine!!! Still, half the Sam.

    @golem

Eur 200-800 is not the answer, even monkey knows that.

Don't remember. Never cared for those DVDs since I bought some cheap Leopard Family Box and use that on all of my machines.

Why would I want a lower capacity and probably slower hard drive? It's getting hard to find even a notebook drive of less than 300gig nowadays. Is there a problem with MOS and big drives that can't be solved by using multiple partitions or going the Ice filesystem route?

Actually here it's hard to find a >250GB ATA 2,5'' drive. SATA is no problem of course, but PowerBook doesn't have that.

Biggest PATA 2,5" harddisk is a WD 320GB drive (have that one in a Mac mini).

200 for the 1.67 GHz version seems a very cheap shot for Europe.
The Powerbooks are on sale en masse on ebay USA, but in Europe they gor for higher amounts. My observation for a few auctions I followed on ebay Germany is rather in the 320-380 EUR region. Less than 320 seems to be rare, exceeding 400 as well.
In the US you get them for 250-350 US$ last time I checked prices.
