    Hi,

I would need to create text with a speed effect, something like that:

    http://www.webdesign.org/photoshop/text-effects/speed-text.15189.html

Any idea if this is feasible with any existing software which runs on MorphOS?

    Thanks for help.

With Art Effect you can obtain a similar effect, using some filters. I tried for a while and I guess it could be possible..
Though the "Wind" effect used in this demo isn't there...
    SpeedLogo
I don't know if Inner Shadow, Outer Shadow, and those nice colours and blending effects are doable... Maybe not..?!
Should try other programs.. By the way, god way to stimulate curiosity! And good website, too. Thanks!

Well, I tried with FX Paint but even though it has lot of nice effects I couldn't perform that result.
Ok, let's say Photoshop is another planet and paint prgograms development are stopped from a while, except for Pawel Stefanski's "Paint" program that being a complex paint program will engage its author for a lot of time.
I checked another program to see if something could be done. And so I tried Photogenics V4.1
I created logo (MorphOS word)with Art Effect using white color and I saved. Then Loaded with Photogenics and used a finger blending mode to create the movement effect on this picture and saved again.
Went back to Art Effect and loaded the modified logo and used two filters to trnsform again: movement blur and ripples. In this way I created a almost similar effect like the 'Wind effect' used in Photoshop tutorial. Then using other effects on logo I obtained this:
    LogoMOS
I don't know if it's podssible to create the same "inner shadow" effect saw in the tutorial...

I like it better that any other, because it's done entirely with MorphOS tools! Way to go!

    @RMS:

I've taken the wind effect code from GIMP, and integrated it inside the Python Imaging Library (PIL).

After fighting with multiple combinations I've got this result:

    with alpha:
    http://yellowblue.free.fr/yiki/lib/exe/fetch.php/gallery:speed.png

    without alpha:
    http://yellowblue.free.fr/yiki/lib/exe/fetch.php/gallery:speed_noalpha.png

I'll integrate the wind effect in my PIL morphos version soon and give you the script after.

@Jcmarcos: Thanks! The sad thing is thata those programs are powerful but a little outdated (sigh!) and there are strange effect when using them. For example FX Paint crashes sometimes, Art Effect has a lot of filters but sometimes they don't work or don't work properly. You can't save a picture with transparent background (!!): I tried with png, alpha channel and switching off the background but the result is always the same.. I even tried to save the theme I draw as brush but when I loaded and used I obtained a weird effect... Maybe some incompatibility due to age of program and/or something I don't remember...
By the way, Art Effect was/is a rock!
    MOSMoveLogo
I guess I will use this logo for an Ambient background... ;-)

Ok, my new PIL version is available on my wiki (the 1.1.7-r10 at least):
    http://www.yomgui.fr/yiki/doku.php/en:dev:python:rel2x

    Then, the script is here:
    http://www.yomgui.fr/python/speed.py

    Usage:
    python speed.py text input_filename output_filename a_ttf_font_path font_size

    Example:
    python speed.py "Speed" test.png fonts:_ttf/Arialbi.TTF 64

Automatic, configurable, works on MorphOS! What else?

@jambalah: do you have tried the console script or the GUI?
I've made the GUI version archive quite fast without deep tests so maybe I've forgotten some .py files in libs...

And for the info, it's the new PyMUI inside (v0.4) with a new core engine, more friendly with BOOPSI coding rules.

I need to continue to improve some part before a standalone release of this module.

    But during this time: enjoy!

[edit]: I've let the debug through serial, that can slowdown GUI operations.

    I get the following error:

    Ram Disk:> python c:speed.py "Speed" test.png System:MorphOS/Fonts/_ttf/LiberationSans-Bold.ttf 64

    Any ideas?

@RMS: yep! you try to use various python libs repositories.

Libs/ contents in speedy.lha archive shall not be mixed with a current installation! Strange effects may happen.

As you see in the log, the PIL package is comming from LIBS: (your system). But this one may be the not correct version, or some extra modules required are not available (is zlib.pym missing?)

If you really need to install PIL on SYS:, be sure to have all latest archives (Python + PIL) available on my wiki.
Then copy the pymui directory in speedy/Libs/python2.5/site-packages, in LIBS:python2.5/site-packages.

This last is not yet released as a standalone archive, I'm in debugging/testing/implementing phase

Note: Christoph, have you seen my private email? I'm black listed or ? :-)

ok, I downloaded the latest versions from your wiki, installed them and after a reset got the same error :-( Well anyway it's not that urgent anymore but would like to have that working...

zlib.pym is not available on my system...!? Dont understand why, shouldn't this file be included in your packages? Could it be that because of this missing zlib.pym blender doesn't save in png? Do you know where to get this zlib?

    @RMS: let me check....

Yep! It's true! zlib.pym is missing in r114 release!
This is why you can't save in PNG.

I've missed something during the release process...

Please, use the one in the previous release (r101). It should be compatible! I'll fix that on the next release.
