    Hello,

    I don't know if there is a tooltype to select the language, but in command line you can type:

    mplayer -dvd 1 -dvd-device ide.device:unit -alang de

    for german. en for english, fr for french, ja for japan...etc
    Note that dvd-device argument is not needed if your DVD drive is connected on ide.device unit 1.

    if you want subtitles you add the argument: -slang de (for german for example)

    Also you can activate framedropping if needed by adding:
    -framedrop

    Regards

    Just discovered that if you change the ide.Device to ide.device it
    works from the icon. :-) Thanks for a great port!!

    look in tooltypes and change ide.Device to ide.device - it is case
    sensitive and ide.Device is incorrect. Then remove the () around VCD
    title and VCD device. It'll work grand!! :-)

    I must be stupid, but I don't manage to select chapters. Here I play the Mindcandy Demo DVD, with 1 Title in which there are 48 chapters. But it only plays the menu and quits... Tried -chapter etc with no success..

    I second to that. It's much faster when selecting the files by hand.

    I'm having problems with MPlayer and DVD playback. Well, playback does get started but it hangs after a few seconds and in different locations.

    My first attempt was with an allregion dvd, and I just don't get past the "warning" screen. ;)

    My next attempt was with "The Family Guy" Volume One Disk 1. It starts playing but then it crashes in various spots.

    Another attempt was with the newly released KiKi's Delivery Service (no, it's not porn. :P). The furthest I've managed to get that one to work the blue Studio Ghibli screen.

    I've got the DVD Drive hooked up as the master on the secondary channel via an 80-pin IDE cable.

    ideas?

    (I've got the Region 1 two disk set here.) MPlayer sometimes crashes when reading some movie files from my harddrive but it's generally a lot more stable.

    Is your DVD drive connected as the secondary master?
    Are you using a Radeon?

    @td741:

    yes, drive is secondary master and yes I'm using a radeon (club3d 9000 with 64mb).

    And yes I have also a movie here which let mplayer crash/freeze (only on seeking). But I can use frogger for this file. :-)

    Hmm... Have you tried any Region 1 disks? If so, which ones. I might have the same one here.

    I'll have to dig out my other all-region disks just to see if they work fine.

    Well.. No goal.

    I tried several VCD's and DVD's today. The "legal" and officially made VCD's froze after playing a short while. Strangely enough the homemade one that poses a problem with certain players seemed to work just fine.

    I've tried two all-region DVD's and one Region 1 disk (Austin Powers: Goldmember). And they froze. I did manage to get past the New Line Cinema intro and get into the actual movie for about 5 seconds a few times.

    What seems to happen is that the video freezes and the audio continues. I've tweaked around the autosync, no_multibuffering, audio_id, cgx_mode and framedrop tooltypes... No dice. The freezes seem to be random.

    Anyone have any ideas on what I should do next?

    That would be nice :-)

    @everyone

    I've read (ofcourse:-)) all the posts in this thread and it seems possible to let mplayer play a whole DVD :-?
    How can you see the whole DVD?
    Until now I just selected the VOB-files to see the movie.
    And is it possible to see whole VCD-CD's too instead of selecting tracks?

    I have to say that mplayer works very nicely indeed!! :-D

    What is Region 1?

    Commercial DVD's are generally Region Coded. This is done to try and protect the release of new movies since they are generally not released simultanously around the world.

    <snip>
    Seven regions (also called locales or zones) have been defined, and each one is assigned a number. Players and discs are often identified by the region number superimposed on a world globe. If a disc plays in more than one region it will have more than one number on the globe.
    1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
    2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
    3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
    4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
    5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
    6: China
    7: Reserved
    8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)
    </snip>

    There are some "all region" coded DVD's, and some players that can "change regions" or have "all regions". Mind you there are some DVDs that attempt to thwart multi-region players.

    @Spidey:
    Are you going through the icon tooltypes or command line options? I just go through the tooltypes and I set the DVD_TITLE, DVD_DEVICE and DVD_UNIT. (Not 100% if those are the tooltypes since I'm not near my Pegasos at the moment. :P)

    Here are few DVD's, I've tried succesfully.

    Battle Royale 2DVD (Finnish) R2 release
    Animatrix R2
    Princess Mononoke R1
    Blood - The Last Vampire (R0 I think?)
    Akira 2DVD R2
    Mindcandy vol 1 (NTSC R0) only title menu worked (This DVD has only one title, and it stops, (doesn't crash) after displaying copyright stuff)

    Well, I have lots of more DVD's, haven't tried every one of them on my DVD drive, but most I've tried seem to work (apart from Mindcandy having problems)
