While searching for some news on external sites, I encountered some torrent sites already.

This is ill man, I just cannot imagine how someone could do such thing for such a tiny community. There was a similar story this very year - someone put OS4 on a torrent.

This is not even a steal, this is destroying the community.

Any ways / ideas of fighting that?

Come again? Why would a torrent of MorphOS ISO be a bad thing?

And BTW: There are multiple sites that create fake search results. Example:
    http://www dot downloadkeeper dot com/put-anything-here-crack-serial-download.html

(you can replace "put-anything-here" with whatever you like and you always get a page with fake entries. EDIT: Ok, I broke the link just to make sure they don't get any more referers or google hits)

These sites are a scam. The idea is to get people to sign in, and perhaps give some money for downloads that really aren't there. Additionally they might get targeted by all kind of malware or scams (if you fall for the initial scam, you're likely to fall for additional ones).

    1. That version of OS4 was for the AmigaOne, wasn't it? If so, then the only people who would find *any* use for it, is *already* A1/OS4 users (it's *utterly useless* to everyone else). So I'm sorry, but I don't see the problem? IMHO, the *real* problem for OS4 is that the A1 (and Sam440 for that matter) is a dongle that nobody wants or needs, that is only *preventing* people from entering "the community"; i.e. the real problem is the business model Hyperion is using.

    2. To give you some perspective, have a look at the ways of the MorphOS team. They have ported their OS to commonly available (albeit only as second hand) hardware, and they have put their OS completely open for download from their website. Theoretically, you could put MorphOS 2.4 on that very same torrent site, and MorphOS could *benefit* from the increased exposure to new crowds, any potential Mac Mini G4 owner that happens to browse that site could just download and try MorphOS 2.4, and this without causing any load on the MorphOS team's web server.

    Do you see the difference?

I'd be happy to seed a torrent of the unregistered MorphOS ISO, if it helps spread awareness and maybe snatch some new users. As long as it's the demo version, there's no harm is there?

DiskDoctor: that's even more than sad that some AmigaOS users are uploading full versions of their os on torrents or other warez sites. The community is so small that the whole situation is absolutely crazy. I've even seen two idiots fighting on piratebay who uploaded AOS4.1 for SAM as a first one.

Upload MorphOS everywere you can, but only a demo version without the key (which is no use on any other machine anyway than it was registered).

Pampers - uploading OS4 (for A1 or SAM or any other version custom coded for special hardware that *simply can't be bought without OS4* in the first place) on the pirate bay didn't hurt anyone! It had *absolutely zero* impact on Hyperion's finances or anything else! If Hyperion would try to sue anyone for this, they wouldn't be able to prove any damage whatsoever!

If anything, it did two things:

    1) It winded up those predictable people who always tends to see these kind of things as a personal attack on themselves and instantly runs off to forums to cry about it (which I guess is kind of fun, and probably *the only* reason to why it was uploaded in the first place, i.e. just to tease you)

    2) It put some light on the whole "business model" Hyperion is using, which is kind of bizarre ("don't let people try before they buy, don't port the OS to widely spread HW that people may actually have, don't even port it to HW people *may potentially want*, no, the Amiga has always been an expensive hobby, and the hardware has always been... uhm, "special", and not having the OS pirated is more important than having any users at all)

Of course I meant registered copies, I am stupid but not that stupid!

Check yourselves (I didin't) - google for morphos mac keywords. Then you will find the "full" versions. I suppose key isn't required in full. I won't paste url since this would violate ToS.

Not sure if this is a scam, didn't check this, wasn't actually aware of that kind of business model as piru mentioned. I just hope those are scams really.

Someone stated marketing issues here - good point anyway :-) I mean a MacOSX_and_MorphOS_For_Mac_Mini.torrent - that kind of fake torrents are a good viral marketing :-) :-)

Moana has been since January 200*8*, AmigaOne-OS4 since August 200*8* and Sam440-OS4 since it got released in October 200*8*.

Edit: I was wrong. It was 2009 when Sam440-OS4 was put online, not 2008.

It started not earlier than in April this year that Sam440s stopped being available without OS4. That makes 1.5 years Sam440 being available also without OS4, including 6 months the appropriate torrent being available. And I don't think DENX are providing OS4 today ;-)

Edit: 1 month, not 6 months.

Not the Moana was put on torrent, OS4.1 was put. Moana is not OS4. It is an unfinished OS4 Mini version, illegal by definition. Though one might find it on the web.

Thanks. That issue was released in March 2009, so it perfectly fits my timeframe presented above, i.e. Sam440s sold also without OS4 upto April 2009.
Apart from that, the ad doesn't necessarily say that Sam440 is available without OS4, but that OS4 is available separately, i.e. without hardware. That makes perfect sense regarding the fact that Sam440 had been available for one year before OS4 even started being available for Sam440.

It was, in December 2007 even (not January 2008 like I stated before). And it's still there.

    > OS4.1 was put.

Yes, like I wrote: "Sam440-OS4 since it got released in October 200*8*."
OS4 for Sam440 is OS4.1. And it was in 2008, not "this very year".

Edit: I was wrong. It was 2009, not 2008.

You are right. OS4.1 for Sam440 was put online in March 2009, not in 2008 like I claimed. I apologize.

It is possible with moana loader, discontinued project.

There is no point of doing that anyway, sound doesn't work, internet doesn't work, there is no easy way to install it on harddrive at all.

    Waste of time imho.
