Well, I think that we must do this localization if we want to have MorphOS 2.0 in Greek language. ;-)

I don't think we actually have anyone doing a Greek translation at the moment. Feel free to contact tokai if you want to help.

The main problem of the morphos and Greek locale is the lack of a keymap for our language. I tried keymorpher just to make the Greek keymap, but this was not working so well. So, we can't write in Greek.

There is no problem to see Greek in MorphOS, as you have to install the TTF with the ISO-8859-7 encoding, which is under MOSSYS:Fonts/_encodings. I can view most of the non utf-8 Greek sites just great with IBrowse 2.4.

After that the .cd files are needed for the translation of MorphOS. I would recommend that the translation should be done by the Greek ATO team, unless they do not want to do it.

Also I would recommend that you should wait for the MOS 2.0, because there might be a lot of things that are different from the 1.4.5 version.

Dear George I know the problem with key map I dont know who to fix it ,yes the Mos 2.0 is Quite different from 1.4.5 but if someone from the Greek community get access in the Mos 2.0 ( I know you translate the OS4 in Greek and you have the knowledge and the ability to make it again for MOS2.0) so the MOS developer team must give you the access to continue your work on MOS

We already have the OS4 translation in Greek ready since last December, so we hope will be included in the final-CD version. But with MorphOS I believe that there is a lot of work that must be done. So I don't believe that we will have it on time for the MOS2.0 version, even if we all start now. :)

I don't know if the MOS dev team should give us the .cd files or the Ambient dev team. But there should be a place where we could get them. Maybe we could find them in the developer site. I'll try that and see.

I tried the locale files from the OS3.9 greek locale update and they work fine except from the keymaps. The positive thing is that MOS recognize the Greek language in the Input Settings.

If there is anyone who want to contribute to the Greek locale translation, please, let me know so that we could start such a project, with an email to walkero (a) yahoo (dot) com

Again, if you want to help with the translation process of MorphOS 2.0, do contact tokai. He is the coordinator of the translating project. As for the keymaps, you should contact itix.

If you don't go to the mountain the mountain comes to you.

Anyway.. there are various ways to contact tokai.. one should be to use the mz.org 'send private message' feature which should list 'tokai' too. Another one (and the prefered method for tokai AFAIK) is to look at one of the many tokai posts and hit the eMail button which tokai has enabled there (Even it means that his account gets spammed to dead. Adding some 'MorphOS' to the eMail subject will help tokai to spot your mail faster between all the spam I guess).

Hope that information helps. At least I usually have no problems to contact tokai. :-)

Itix can be similiar easy contacted.

    regards

Then I'll try to contact them today just to find out what is the best way for this to be done. When I get a reply then I'll tell you what will have to be done.

Messages to Itix and Tokai went off just before.

Thanks guy for your participation, but they should first decide if they want to give the process only to Greek ATO or to other users. We should not forget that ATO does great job and do not overide them.

I'll wait for their email. When something comes up, I'll let you know. If you would like, contact them too and point them to this thread.

Of course I know that the ATO team did a great work in the past. I meant if they don't want to localize MorphOS in our language, then count me on :-D

    whoops;)

    Quick reply sent.

Whats about other locales? There are still some languages not supported at all and some could need some help. ;) So if you can translate some (more or less) rare language (Afrikaans, [Brazilian] Portuguese, Bulgarian, Serbian, Romanian, Iloko, Hindu, Piglatin, whatever) let me know. ;)

Reply sent to Tokai, so that we can start getting the needed files for the translation of MorphOS 2.0! The problem is that we have to do the translation with no system to check it on. We will work on that to find out a good way to do it right.

I still wait for a reply from Itix about the issue of the keymaps.

I'll keep you informed for anything that will come up.

Yesterday at night I managed to make a new keymap for MOS 1.4.5which can give you the ability to write in Greek in your MOS system. It has a few limits. You can download it from:
    www.amitrace.gr/files/MOS_Greek_Locale_0.1.zip

Try this out and tell me what you think.

I don't know if you tried my first attempt to bring greek keymap on MOS1.4.5! I hope it worked for you too.

Now, I just wait for email replies from itix and vovka about various issues and also about the tonicity problem. I hope that I will get them soon.

So wait for a while and soon enough you will see an updated version of it.
