    @morphos-team !

    you must get Sonic involved in MorphOS coding ! This guy has amazing skills and it would be a waste not to use them !!

    congratulations Sonic, you truly rock ! (hope you'll get things sorted out with BootX !)

    great work Sonic! would it be possible to adapt adfread (www.winuae.net) to MorphOS, for reading Amiga-floppies with two floppy drives?

    @Sonic

    I wonder, isn't this more like mfm.device rather than trackdisk.device? trackdisk.device woud suggest that the device reads amiga format, rather than PC MFM 11 sectors per track.

    Well, well... Answers... :-)
    2 Katos1: Why? The project was started as part of Unmorphos and it's completely opensource...
    2 magnetic: yes, my relatives have a very poor keyboard with very small keys, it was easy to mistype...
    2 Robin: that time i was unable to connect to ftp://main.aminet.net. Well, may be next time, don't know when. Remember that i still can't exchange information with my work, this is forbidden. May be in future when i get more trust here...
    2 Soundsquare and Katos1: No, i am not a member of MorphOS devteam and i think i'll never be there, it's impossible.
    2 analogkid: Software-driven floppy on parallel port? Hm, interesting idea... But it would be quite another driver. BTW, a friend of mine has told me that some of his friends has written long time ago a program for PC which was able to read disks of any format, even non-MFM, using built-in PC controller. It was polling some bit to read raw bitstream from the drive. I hope we'll manage to get some info and/or source code. If it's possible with VIA8231 and doesn't depend on any legacy mode (which is not implemented in VIA) i'll implement it.
    2 Piru: trackdisk.device name is inherited from AROS. However, this is not going to be exact copy of mfm.device. If there will be any interest it's possible to extend the driver to autodetect disk geometry (size and number of sectors per track) in order to be able to read for example ZX-Spectrum disks. On classic Amiga it was done using raw track read and it's not the best way IMHO.

    I'm not sure if we think of the same thing... My idea was to connect two normal PC-floppies to the internal floppy-controller, and then be able to read Amiga-disks with one of them, like ADFRead for WinUAE (www.winuae.net) or Disk2FDI does.

    Well, it's still wrong IMO. The least it is confusing, as it suggests it would somehow be compatible and as cabable as the original trackdisk.device. In fact, some apps even have hardcoded device names in them, such as trackdisk.device and mfm.device, and then assume certain layouts for the floppies. Now, such app would use trackdisk.device, attempt to read 880K or 1760K and fail. If the device was called mfm.device, these apps would at least be usable.

    Agreed, such fixed devicenames and disk sizes are braindamage from the app side. ;-)

    2 analogkid: Yes, i've found that information. I'll think about it.
    2 Piru: please reread my previois message. There are 50/50 chances that it will be as capable as original trackdisk.device. This depends on a friend of my friend finding his old code. If not, okay, i'll change the name.
    P.S. Would you like to include it into OS1.5? ;-)

    Sonic,
    you are a master.

    Why don't you port AmigaOS4 on PegasosII.

    Because noone gives me the source code of AmigaOS4. Probably it can run on Pegasos I with help of a special bootloader which emulates u-boot behaviour

    Nothing hurts a project more than developers not taking the time to let their community know what is going on.

    Just kidding
