Sonic if you are 100% sure you get this thing (Firewire Stack) working I say: Why not? And i hope you get over 150$ for this.

Sonic: I understand that you need the $150 before the DV support can be done. However, I don't like the idea of paying a bounty in advance, involving a lot of people. It's different if a few single individuals want to make major contributions in good faith, that is up to them.

So my suggestion is to set up the first bounty for completion of masstorage and/or IP-over-1394. Additionally it would be stated in the bounty that it is also meant for support towards a possible future DV driver, without any actual promises made. Since a working stack with one or two drivers is a great step towards DV support anyway, hopefully people only interested in DV would still donate to this bounty (perhaps splitting their donations 50/50).

So you'd have to complete this first bounty to get the $150. Then the second bounty would be paid upon completion of the DV support. But I will add it to the text of the second bounty, that if the first one doesn't reach $150, the second is unlikely to happen at the moment. But I guess if we can't raise even $150 for the writing of the stack itself, we'd better give up any idea of achieving firewire support through the bounty system.


About the Sputnik controversy, no, the khtml bounty states absolutely nothing about support for OS4 and/or AROS. It was just something that had been discussed in forums as 'possible'. But I will add in the bounty text that support for other Amiga-like systems is possible and that as a minimum sources will be available as it's GPL, but that these versions require hardware for testing which goes outside the responsibility of this bounty, and that such versions are not a condition for payment of the bounty.


Right now I'll be waiting for Sonic to report as soon as he knows if he has hardware for masstorage and IP-over-1394 respectively. I won't post any bounty until that happens.

Amigaharry: That would be absolutely great. Of course there's always a risk involved when donating in advance, but since we already know Sonic not least from his past achievements, I think we can trust him not to take the money and run. However, things can always happen in people's lives to make them unable to do what they've said they would do, and this is why the MZ bounty system is set up so that payment will happen upon delivery. It gets messy when a lot of people are involved.

I understand Sonic has limited email access, but maybe you two could arrange a transfer through MZ private messages? If you two go ahead with this, I think one bounty would be enough. Since it's $150 in one transfer, the bank fees won't be so much of a problem (but for collecting a bounty where some people only send $10, bank fees would be prohibitive, unlike paypal).


Please keep us updated, I do want to post the bounty as soon as possible, but not until we know which of the three drivers are realistic in terms of available testing hardware. Donors must know what to expect.

No, noone is going to run away. I've even worked on the stack a bit yesterday. The core contains of six .c modules, one of them already compiles.
Also i've rewritten driver's API a bit, i disliked my previous implementation.
The code is being prepared to be submitted to the CVS. As soon as i get a permission at my job to do it (i think it's time, i already work here by some time, in fact it's not porn browsing but project support, this makes me more experienced anyway...)

rms: There *will* be a bounty, I'm sure. But again: first we need to know what can be done! It's great that some individuals have been ready to support Sonic with hardware and reparation costs, this will no doubt speed up the effort. But for the bounty: No bounty until we know the realistic target.

Ok, this encourages me to test my Firewire adapter ASAP (also VIA, great, there are going to be no compatibility problems).
As to masstorage: nothing has arrived by postl yet. As to camera reparation, it's monday, if someone sends money today, they'll be here in 2 days i guess.
I'll report the status when it changes.

I am all set to get a bounty going for this, and have been for a long time now. I cant post it though. Targhan is the only one with the access to do that now. I dont hear from him much these days so we'll see.

On a side note I am about to go to school in January and then be on shore duty. I'll have much more time to work on things like this and was thinking of setting up a mirror of it on a local server so I can admin it myself.
