perhaps you could ask some core developer for his mail-address and displace the discussion to <insert your favorite mail-app>

Guess you're right. 12 hours without a reply means probably
that IRC is the only communication wanted
Seems I have to leave my shyness behind and fire up my
chat-client.

For fast reply IRC is the best place to communicate. Developers can get 100+ mails per day (CVS diffs...) and mails are lost easily...
