I'm looking for a new name for the GoldED Studio package. The name of the editor itself will remain GoldED but the whole package needs a different name (a name which does not contain "ED" because development has moved away from pure editor and towards an integrated package for developers). Can you think of a good name? I've compiled a list of preliminiary ideas in this POLL and would appreciate your vote (or a new suggestion).

SourceVerse sounds nice to my ears. Seems I am in minority though :-)

Use the word Architect in your name like CodeArchitect or PowerArchitect if it is only for PowerPPC's !
..there will be only one left.

    I like foundry.
Or suggest CodeMaster, there were several #?master programs for Amiga.

Or maybe Code-o-mat, back in the days #?-o-mat was quite nice.

Or what about melting pot - that would be qiuite close to foundry, or maybe 'Schmelztiegel' and keep it German to avoid problems with the clothing company meltin' pot.

The more I think about it, the more I like 'Schmelztiegel", for non-Germanspeakers it will on first be a bit tricky to think about the pronounciation of that word, but then it will be not difficult [shmells teagle].

Unfortunate German connotation (Depp - idiot)

    CodeArchitect is already taken.

SourceFarm is cool but, alas, taken. I have mixed feelings about the rest. For example, SourceGarden is very close to Soundgarden, it might sound unoriginal (and a bit too poetic for boring software).

Hmm ;) Amazingly, even this name is taken, 100,000 hits on Google.

Smelly Eagle? Well, would open up interesting logo opportunities. Not a commercially viable choice though.

Altough I don't think that name would fit an IDE or is extraordinary cool..

If google displays hits for a word (that exists in german like "Schmelztiegel"), it does not automatically mean it is used for any kind of IDE. Google just shows you how many page hits it found for your search query.

Obviously. However, many hits make it harder for users to find information related to a program. And the domain may be taken already. And you might expose yourself to litigation by taking a name that is in use (it doesn't have to be in use for an editor). Advertising can be problematic, too, think of adwords.

Well, whatever is picked don't use schiessvogel! :-P

*somthing*-Basin: because it has everthing, even the kitchen sink.

You have Concerto listed, but how about Codecerto? Composer's Box
    Design Bazaar
    Code-Catamaran

Now the problem in coming up with a new name is that Studio has all those new features, but still handles HTML, AmigaGuide, and can still be used as an editor plugin for your browser (see that "E" button on the box you type in when replying to a message?). So we have, coding, editing, developing, email and webpost spellchecking, and probably anything else that could be dreamed up to do with text ;-)

A variant of this idea is in the poll (Bugdance) and was one of my favorites. Doesn't get a lot of votes though, maybe too childish or ironic or self-referential? Anyway, I've added BugRocker and Bugfabrik. Bughouse, unfortunately, is taken.

Associations with a kitchen sink? Let's set the goals a bit higher (eagle, dragon, that kind of stuff :)

Well, the whole point of the exercise is to find a package name without the ED part. A good name would suggest components / development / source code / compilers etc. I'd rather not have any "gold" (or other metal, for that matter) in the package name. The gold idea will be used in the editor name, that's enough. The package name should open a new perspective.

    (laughing) sorry sorry ;-)

Let's see, a dragon would have a hoard of treasure, and treasure indicates a treasure chest. A developer is in the buisiness of building software, or creating software. Hmm... How about "Creator's Chest". Of coarse a chest can also be a tool chest or a toolbox; the codebox or codechest. There is a lot of references to "magic" in the community, so how about "MagicMoiler" indicating that the package magically works hard on your behalf; though "moil" isn't a common term anymore.
