A LiveDVD (1.8 gigabyte in size) for Pegasos is currently being uploaded and will be distributed through bittorrent. It comes preconfigured with Gentoo and lots of cool things installed.

    Read BBRV's blog about it

... or go directly to the LiveDVD page!

Apparently, Genesi will use this LiveDVD for a demonstration in China later this month.

That is so awesome! Is it uploaded yet? I cant find the link for it. Also has anyone got it to install to a hard drive? I think if someone could write a step by step guide we could all have a great install of gentoo for our system real easy at last.

1.7 GB with many simultaneous connections with "full broadband bandwidth" towards one single server, would probably require a server with *serious* bandwidth if it should be any point at all. I agree that such a server would be preferred, but since this obviously doesn't seem to be possible for him ATM, then this bittorrent thing is at least a way of collectively sharing the burden.

I have downloaded about 80% now, and I will continue seeding some time after I get it all.

I suggest anyone interested to jump on the train right now.

If any of you guys pay for the bandwidth I'm sure Pieter would be more than happy to host it on an FTP/HTTP. Until then bittorrent is a cheap way of distributing large files to several people.

I got the dvd to boot by typing boot cd live and then I get to the login screen, I type user/user and it goes to a gentoo screen after that and just sits. How do I get in to use all the stuff? Also I cant use my mouse Its a USB M$ optical inteli mouse. I will try with a ps2 adapter I guess next.

EDIT: Wohoo! I am posting this edit fromthe live DVD! It works great with a PS2 adapter on my mouse. ?NOW if only we could get an install to HD step by step guide. I have a 10GB drive just waiting for it!

They say on the home page that it can be installed and gove some things you need to do, its not clear to a linux newb though. I think just using the Gentoo handbook for PPC would be a lot easier. I did it and got a nice system going with it. Its not hard to get a full Gentoo install all working.

It's great DVD! I have succesfully "installed" it on harddisk - it's a lot faster from HDD :-D

    1. Make ext2 partition and mount it
    2. Copy everything from /mnt/livecd to it
    3. Delete hidden .eid from root and user home
    3. Copy "live" from /mnt/cdrom to your FFS boot partition
    4. Boot using live image and root=/dev/hdax, where x is number of your ext2 partition

It's really easy if you know some Linux commands like: cp, mount, rm, mkfs...

I like OpenOffice and Mozzila Firefox, I really need this apps on MorphOS, because MorphOS is still the best OS for me! ;-)

    Cool! :-)

Of course, if one wants to install Gentoo on their HDD I think it's quite easy to follow the step by step instructions on gentoo.org as well ... ;-)

    Hi,
how do I hd-install this DVD to an harddisk which only has a rigid disk block but no fdisk label. The DVD doesn't see any partitions ...

I guess, it's pretty dangerous to add a MBR and a RDB to the same hd ?

    bye

Someone that knows how to do this and has done it should make a step by step for dummies install guide. I want to get it on my system as well. I love booting it from the dvd.
