Amiga one X5040

    Hi guys,

I have an Amiga one X5040 and bought a ATI Radeon Sapphire X1950 GT 256MB GDDR3 DUAL DVI-I/TVO
    on ebay.
    https://www.ebay.at/itm/176603571492
It's conncted with a DVI-to HDMI cable on a flat monitor.
    Worked with OS4.

When i boot the X5040 with a USB stick it boots up and a few seconds later the monitor goes black and says "no signal".

Maybe the videocable is the issue ?
    Or any other hints ?

    Regards.

What resolution does the monitor have?

If it is above FullHD the autodetection could have chosen a mode that would only work to over DualLinke DVI.
Either use a smaller screen or see if you can access the early boot menu with holding left mouse button.
Once you booted into a lower res make sure to save that and you should be able just run that on any screen.

You can also hold ctrl key while MorphOS is booting to force a low-res fallback mode.

I didn't know about that forced low resolution triggered by the Ctrl key. Good to know. :-)
Any other secret keys that trigger something when MorphOS boots?

Sadly it seems there is an audio issue with the X5040 board.
There is a crackling sound after 1-2 minutes.
I googled a lot to find a solution but i did not find one,
hope they fix it one day.

Indeed, the older thread on that topic went without solution, unfortunately.

Hoping to see a fix or if not I will explore buying a new audio card down the road. Is why I don't use MorphOS much right now as no sound means not fun for me to explore so.

Keeping my eyes open for a possible fix down the road if the team can fix one day or I will see about a new audio card one day.

Yeah it's very sad i like Moprhos a lot and it's fast as well.
My last try is a Soundblaster Live! coming next week, i let you know if it makes any difference.
Andreas tried a lot in an older post so i don't belive it works anyway.
Maybe a dev reads this and spend some time to fix this problem for X5040 board users.?
Seems i am not the only one ;-)

Indeed must be a X5000/40 problem, i wonder if any usb soundcard would do the trick.

Anyways i don't buy 10 sound cards for one success ;-)

So i testet 2 more soundcards.

Behringer UCA222 USB Audio Interface an external USB soundcard
It's recognized but sound is even worse.

    Creative Soundblaster Live!' Model: SB0200
    Not recognized.

    So there is no solution.

It might be some generic interrupt issue with the X5040 and MorphOS.

I also have a UCA222 somewhere in my closet and will give it a try next time.

I only have tested USB isochronous transfer support needed for USB audio class playback devices with Apple machines in fact.

I wouldn't waste any more money testing additional sound cards unless you desperately want to. I've tested generic CMI87whatever cards, SB Live, various M-Audio ones and also AudigyFX (driver not yet available outside of beta) and they all exhibit bad sound on X5040 to some degree or another. Some much worse than others. At this point I very much doubt you'll find one that fully works.

For me, I have found that the SBLive (PCI I think) is bearable. Most game titles and softwares work with the distortion never kicking in but for some reason there are certainly titles (Edgar, Fallout CE, two examples that spring to mind) that are unbearably bad from the word go. Throughout all my testing I've been communicating closely with Dave (Skateman) and from what we can tell this is unique to the 5040 and does not happen to this extent on his 5020. The 5020 has the issue where the sound gets distorted after a short while, but not permanently, either on some titles, or all like on the 5040.

Maybe they're related but it seems to me like 2 problems, one of which is specific to 5040. It's frustrating for those that have invested in the 5040 but people are aware.
