Could it be that the last MorphOS update introduces a bug in APDF for non-Altivec users...?
I no longer can start the app, getting a: "Apdf requires at an AltiVec unit".

Seems last APDF working without Alitvec was V3.3 from 2005.....(I don't have V3.4 to test).

You mean VPDF? Yes, this still works!

Is there any reason to use APDF for anything nowadays? :) At least I haven't used it in ages...

I rather wonder why a pdf reader requires AltiVec... ;)

No, it wasn't my choice: as I tried to open a pdf manual included in a game, Apdf was opened...So, not my fault! ;)

While it makes sense that a PDF reader supports AltiVec, it shouldn't require it, yes. The more MorphOS components support and benefit from AltiVec, the better. However, a hard requirement with no alternative scalar code path excludes users of the only MorphOS platforms available new (#7), among others.

I have searched into the isos of morphos. In 3.15 it was apdf version 3.4 but since 3.16 it apdf 3.5 which is for altivec cpu only. So for Primax as me owner also of an amigaone x5000 the solution is to copy apdf from 3.15 iso. Also from the iso of 1.4.2 I have copied the locale of apdf into the actual one. I did the iso from the pressed cd I received with pegasos 2. I have proposed this iso and the 1.4.5 one to Papiosaur for morphos-storage. Check if they are still present, in contrary send me a private message to get one of these iso or both.

There is also the benefit of being able to use APDF so that it can extract all the images (usually - though it depends on the format the images were saved in, though usually they are converted into PPM or PBM or JP(E)G during the process to make them a document as a PDF) and the text can also (usually) be extracted, if the PDF author has allowed such extraction/editing/saving, which I find very useful, though it has its limitations with newer versions (revisions) of the PDF format.

It is also nice to be able, sometimes, to compare how APDF displays/handles the PDF against VPDF.

VPDF can overcome some imposed editing/printing limitations (password enforced) that APDF cannot allow of the features that are subject to the imposed restrictions.

VPDF can only save a page as an image, but it cannot extract images or text from a PDF document, which is a limitation I would like to see worked on so that this is then possible with VPDF. 8-D

Yeah, it would be nice if developers wouldn't force this kind of documents to be opened with a certain viewer, because we have user definitions to open files according filetypes nowadays :)

I'm using RNOPDF for that, it supports newer document formats too :) But yeah.. some might prefer different programs, but I'm using RNOPDF and VPDF for everything myself, and APDF has felt quite obsolete for a long time.

Apdf has many good features that Vpdf has not. E.g. the crop/uncrop, definitely the MMB zoom, the page rotation, info window, fonts list, many more settings, the selection colour to copy out text info and much more. It would be best to take over everything that Apdf can to Vpdf and then only have one but good PDF reader instead of two half good.
