License Key

I'm strongly considering purchasing a license for MorphOS.

I've read the website and I can't seem to get an answer for this.
When buying a license, is it locked to that version of MorphOS ( i.e. 3.12 ), or will it be usable for future releases and for how many versions?

    Thanks.

It is locked to the hardware for which you bought the license, not to the OS version.

I have my key since MOS 3.8 if I remember right, and have installed every upgrade released, so 4 times. Always free!

Correction, bought my first key for MOS 3.6 so 6 free upgrades since then.

The key is locked to the hardware, but you get future updates for free. If your hardware fails you can transfer it to a new machine.

I'm in the boat since MorphOS 3.8 (I think?) with a PowerBook G4 5,4. This one broke so my key was kindly transfered to a new PowerBook G4 5,8 which I am running now. All the same license up to 3.12 now.

My Pegasos-key is from MOS 2.0.........

I think that we have to pay at the next major-release - e.g. switching to new platform (MOS 4.x?)

My too, and all those updates have been free during over 10 years.

Isn't that natural without changing the licencing scheme? :) It happens with the current scheme if you change the machine, so platform change makes you to buy a new licence anyway.

    Thanks all.

Just a final question, is the license created as a "snapshot" of the machine as it is right now?

If I decide to add more RAM or swap out the HDD for a SSD, will I require a new key?

Licence is tied to the MAC address of the motherboard nic, so you can change/upgrade any other part of the computer without issue.

    @AmigaHarry

If MorphOS4.0/NG/64 is released for PPC too (which I expect) it's very likely that any 3.x key would still be valid (AFAIK there are no 64bit systems that could have been registered before 3.0).

Thanks Kronos, and if it wasn't for you posting on MacRumors, I would not have known that my iMac G5 was supported in the new 3.12 :)
