That's it! Thanks! How did you know that?

Removed ENVARC: - worked fine. Restored settings partially until bumped into TZ.

The question remains however - if it's MorphOS bug, or Hollywood bug?

Great job finding the problem Korni! I (being the noob that I can be most of the time), still don't understand exactly what you did to find out that it was the TZ prefs in ENVARC: that were causing the problems. Would you care to share the exact steps you took, after removing ENVARC: and rebooting, to track down that it was TZ causing the problem?

I hope someone has forwarded this to Andreas at the Hollywood forums, so he can check to see if it is a buy in his code, or a MorphOS bug.

Oh, it was pretty simple. Restored all ENVARC: subdirectories from my backup, rebooted, ran example program, worked fine. Did the same for A - H, I - S, T - X named envs/prefs files. After copying T - X example program became slow. Removed TZ, rebooted, worked fine again :).

    Situation is known, no worries.

That's simple and logical, I thought that you programmers had magic ways of tracking down errors that I hadn't thought of yet. I guess the simply ways are sometimes the best. Thanks for the explanation and reply. I know that answering stupid questions can sometimes be tiresome.

Yeah, Andreas knows about the issue - it will be fixed in one of the subsequent Hollywood updates. But the software already written using Hollywood will remain somewhat crippled when run on MorphOS 3.11 (earlier versions are free of this timezone mechanism).

Wasn't the new timezone mechanism introduced already with MorphOS 3.10?

Neither nor, it's a feature. When MorphOS introduced timezone support an API that used to have an extremely low footprint suddenly became massively slower so that a test program that used to run in 300 milliseconds now took 30 seconds to complete. Unfortunately, Hollywood makes excessive use of this API which explains the slowdown.

There is a replacement API which is as fast as the old version which I'm going to use for future Hollywood versions but rumour also has it that the existing API will also see some optimizations so there is hope for existing binaries ;)

I have tested the full version of The secret of middle city, a point and click adventure completely written in Hollywood and on MorphOS 3.11 the game, which used to consume about 30%, now takes up to 100% and it's completely unplayable. Should we hope for a new version of MorphOS which will fix the problem or the game should be compiled with a newer version of Hollywood which will have the bug iron out?

Can you give new figures for MorphOS 3.12? Release notes say:

"Improved performance for local time functionalities"
