How do you change video cards on an Efika?

I just got an Efika and boy am I pleasantly impressed with both the Efika and MorphOS 3.7 that it came with! I honestly didn't expect a whole lot at 400 Mhz but this little thing is right zippy.

It came with a Radeon 9200 but I have a Radeon 9250 256MB that I was thinking about replacing it with. The big question is how do you do it? Can I just plug it in and go or do I need to install a driver? If so, how and do I need to install it before or after installing the 9250?

I'm totally tickled with the Efika and MorphOS. It's like being introduced to the Amiga for the first time again. I never used MorphOS before and now I wish that I had a lot sooner!

Like I said, I didn't really expect fantastic performance from the specs but it had Doom and Quake ports installed and I couldn't believe how smoothly they play. It was such a pain to get them to run well on an Amiga and this little baby is simply spanking the Amiga's behind.

I'm sitting in front of this thing and just giggling :)

Radeon9200 and 9250 are pretty much the same card ignoring clockrates and memory, so you won't see any issues on the SW side.

HW wise you may run into problems as the EFIKA will only take half-height cards if the origanal PCI-2-AGP riser is used. In the original case you are also constrained to short cards. Sofar haven't come around a 256MB Radeon 92xx that isn't either fullheight or long.

I have a card that does fit inside the case. What do I need to do so that MorphOS will recognize it?

    Nothing. Just swap cards.

If you think an Efika is good, wait until you see it fly on a PowerMac G5! :-)

Just a follow up question. I had assumed that the 9250 was better than the 9200 because it's newer with more memory. Before installing the 9250 I did some reading on the two cards. What I found surprised me.

I read that the older 9200 is actually the better card. It has a higher (slightly) clock rate and the memory is 128 bit vs 64 bit on the 9250 so that twice as much data can be sent to the card (if I'm understanding the 128 / 64 bit thing right).

So I guess I need to ask the experts. Which card would be better? The 9200 or 9250?

    Thanks again for your help.

The non-SE version of the 9250 has 128-bit memory as well. For performance ranking of 92xx cards see there:
