Magicbeacon installs files to the SYS:MorphOS drawer.
MorphOS update method replaces the entire SYS:MorphOS drawer.
Consequently, when updating MorphOS this directory must be manually restored, or Magicbeacon reinstalled.

This trick resolves that annoyance (a legacy of Magicbeacon's intended inclusion as a system component).

    ----------

    1) Create the following drawers:
    SYS:Applications/Magicbeacon and
    SYS:Applications/Magicbeacon/Data

    2) Move the drawer SYS:MorphOS/Data/Magicbeacon to SYS:Applications/Magicbeacon/Data

    3) Add the following assign to user-startup

    4) Change the default tool path in SYS:WBStartup/Macicbeacon.info

    Assign Mossys: Sys:Applications/Magicbeacon ADD

    All done.

Magicbeacon will now survive updating MorphOS.

I think my solution is cleaner and simplier, no need for assigns or anything and it survives from the updates: I've just installed MagicBeacon stuff which goes to MOSSYS: to SYS: instead.

If you install manually from the MagicBeacon archive, just copy the contents of MagicBeacon.lha:MagicBeacon/SYS/MorphOS/ to SYS: and everything else where it's supposed to go, and that's it.

If you have installed MagicBeacon with Grunch, then you probably need to move:
    MOSSYS:C/SendBeacon to SYS:C/
    MOSSYS:Data/MagicBeacon to SYS:Data/
    MOSSYS:Locale/Catalogs/deutsch/MagicBeacon.catalog to SYS:Locale/Catalogs/deutsch/
    MOSSYS:Locale/Help/deutsch/MagicBeacon.guide to SYS:Locale/Help/deutsch/
    MOSSYS:Locale/Help/english/MagicBeacon.guide to SYS:Locale/Help/english/

Generally everything should work similarly when stored in MOSSYS: or SYS: directories. It's just that things in SYS: are preserved in upgrade and in MOSSYS: not.

I'll give that a try (i'd rather avoid adding to the Mossys: assign also).

..also, I'd missed the locale files entirely... several upgrades ago!

..and forgot about sendbeacon, which i've always kept in SYS:c (mossys:c is sacred!).

I have MagicBeacon installed in WORK:Applications/Desktop and an Icon in WBStartup to start it.
In the Icon-Tooltypes set CX_POPUP=FALSE (double click it)
Catalog files can simply be copied over to SYS:Locale/Catalogs/.
No Assigns necessary, no need to copy it to MOSSYS:
Data is stored in MOSSYS:Data/MagicBeacon and has to be copied back from the renamed MorphOS directory after an update of MorphOS.
Sendbeacon can be copied to C: , the ARexx-Scripts can be copied to S: ,if you need them.

...or you do as suggested by boot_wb or jPV.
