Hyperion Quake 2 installation problems.

I got a nice deal on Hyperion's Q2 bundle at a local Amiga show this weekend.

However, I'm having problems installing it.

I copy the "q2ami" disk elsewhere according to the instructions. Then I slap in the bundled Quake2 disk. I run the installation, and pick my 2gig drive (since the installer doesn't like large drives). It starts copying the two library files from the Q2Ami volume. Then it just sits at the "Copying base files to your hardisk..."

My CDDrive isn't spinning... a "Qtools" process is running but not doing anything.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

Okay, changed the installer to installerNG, and qtools is complaining that it doesn't have enough memory? Hmm.. I do have around 138 megs free?

    Any clues?

    @ td741,

Problem is, that qtools does not work with MOS.

    AFAIK you can either

    a) install it on an Amiga and transfer the QuakeII directory to your Pegasos

    b) modify the install script so, that instead of calling qtools (which unpacks the pak0.pak, pak1.pak and pak2.pak files to your QuakeII directory) it simply copies those pak files to your QuakeII directory.
Should still work, but might be slower during loading as it has to extract the necessary data when playing from those pak files instead of an already installed directory structure.

    c) Install MOS1.2 (or was it MOS1.1) for installing QuakeII. IIRC qtools worked when I installed it using one of those MOS versions, but I might be wrong and mix it up with another program installation.

    d) get the sources from qtools from Aminet and try to compile it for MOS.

Does it help if you turn Trance off temporarily? (Only for installation)

I modified the intaller so that it copies the pak files.

It really doesn't take that long to load so I guess I'll just ignore not having Qtools up to snuff. :P Now I'm just wondering if I should look into the mods, are they on Hyperion's Site?

Well, there should be another CD with freely distributeable MODs included with Hyperions Quake2.

You can find other ones on the Amiga Quake 2 Page.

Hmm... I've got one AmiQ2 disk with serial number and the installer packages. It was also bundled with a 2 CD pack of Quake Windows version labelled as "Xplosive". The first "Xplosive" disk contains the program, the second disk is labelled as a "menu"? :-?

Thanks for the link though. I'll check it out.

    @ td741,

Hm, I got them too and furthermore the upper mentioned CD with MODs.
AFAIK the MOD CD should be included - as those MODs had to be rewritten for the Amiga OS.

Oh, BTW I bought them at the Amiga retro fair in Aachen 2002 at KDH.

I THINK they had to stop distributing free mods with commercial game due to legal problems...

Works fine, even got the CD music playing. :) (You do have to configure with Quake II GUI to use AHI though. :) )
