    Hi,

I use Mplayer for playing Video and DVD content.
Usually the movies are widescreen and not designed for the 4/3 display ratio aspect of my monitor and so they have black bars on top and bottom.

Often the black bar are quite big. I would prefer to cut of a bit on the left and right of the video to get smaller black bars.

Is there a way to zoom into the video so I can make better usage of my screen?

    Cheers

    yes. there is a way.

When you know the real (pixel) size of your videostream then you can use "-vop crop=w:h:x:y" parameter to 'zoom in' to the video.

    e.g.:

    work:gfx/mplayer/> MPlayer "movie:sac/ep01.avi" -vop crop=400:200:10:10

400:200 is the size (width:height) and 10:10 is the offset (x:y).

    (same works with mencoder too)

    regards,

    Thanks Tokia,

The video topic brings me to another question:

Is there a recomandable tool for MOS to do DVD backups ?
Either something DVD -> CD (dixv)
or DVD -> DVD (with maybe cutting/remastering possiblies to make the DVD fit on empty one)

    Cheers

    Hello BigGun!

I'm working on a small script that'll make DVD -> DivX encoding an easy task.

Will be on MorphZone really soon ;)

For best qualitz use 2pass encoding and some of the following options to increase qualitz further. v4mv:trell:mdb=2 and -oac copy to put all audio streams into the avi, -aid xxx to select a specific one.

If you want to encode audio to mp3 you must add -mc 0 otherwise a/v will get out of sync.
