IMac G5 ISight Fan control

    Hello,
I'm running MorphOS on an IMac G5 ISight 20" (A1145) and it run very smoothly.

I was wondering about one thing : the fans control/speed

Actually even when the CPU temp is high, the fans are always at the minimum speed and CPU doesn't cool down. I tried the tool IMacFanCtrl by Frank Mariak and it works pretty well in order to cool down the temp but it is a manual operation.

Do you know if it is a compatibility issue with this model of IMac or if it doesn't work at all ?

    Thank you

You have to find the right speed and the right noise
now we are in winter but when summer arrives the temperatures rise
read the readmi of the program and adjust accordingly
In any case it works and you have to find the right relationship between cooling and fan noise
Obviously you must also have the thermal paste in good condition

This is a simple fan control/temperature monitoring tool for iMac G5 20"
    iSight running MorphOS.

It allows you to manually control the fan speeds within its valid/reported
range and view various temperatures. This is meant to be more of an
experimental tool if you should ever experience issues with too high
temperatures when running the system on high CPU load.

While iMac G5 is not officially supported by current MorphOS versions which
is 3.15 at the time of this release, future MorphOS versions might have
better system integration and/or might require to get this tool updated if
you still want to use it.

If you encounter any issue, please contact me at frank@morphos-team.net

    New in Version 0.4

    - new shell/icon parameters

MIN_RPM0 minimum fan rpm speed for fan 0 (optical fan)

MIN_RPM1 minimum fan rpm speed for fan 1 (CPU fan)

MIN_RPM2 minimum fan rpm speed for fan 2 (HDD fan)

NOGUI do not open the user interface but only adjust minimum rpm
speed if necessary, (only useful if any of the MIN_RPM
    args is used)

Any of the minimum RPM arguments won't take effect if it is either out of
the fan's own minimum/maximum range or below the actual current setting
    of the fan

There is only one model of iMac that works with MorphOS and that is „unsupported“.

This status might change with a future release but till then Frank‘s small tool is the best option.

Ok thank you all for your answers.

Yes I was thinking about something which could automatically manage those fans depending on the temp level but as you said it is unsupported for those iMac.

    Let's see in future releases.

    Cheers

Yes, must be Radeon... I think it was the last version of the G5 that works.

    Nasty that one…..

It is really simple: G5, 20“, webcam

Only 1 model qualifies, and thats the one you want.

@ koszer - that does indeed look to be a good price for the A1145 iMac G5 2.1GHz 20 inch model - even though it's going to need a thorough disinfecting and fumigating to that keyboard, but it is an A1016 bluetooth keyboard that will work with MorphOS - if you dual-boot with Mac OSX installed and the keyboard 'paired' via Mac OSX's bluetooth stack. 8-)

The iMac G5 1.9GHz 17" (iSight) PowerPC 970fx, Model A1144 (EMC 2081), iSight, PowerMac12,1, is (I believe) also partially supported, though this may also be improved upon in v3.18 (guess? :-?) but it is a step-down from the A1145 that I own, and know that works really well. 8-D
    MacMini 1.5GHz,64MB VRAM, PowerBooks A1138/9 (Model 5,8/9),PowerMac G5 2.3GHz(DP), iMac A1145 2.1GHz 20", all with MorphOS v3.18+,Airport,Bluetooth,A1016 Keyboard,T-RB22 Mouse,DVD-RW-DL,MiniMax,Firewire/USB2 & MacOSX 10.4/5

Except for the fact that the sellers seem to confuse the "iMac G5" with "iMac" and you can buy an Intel 2,16 GHz if you don't pay enought attention to the details.
